The MN Deer Classic this year is the weekend of March 9th.If anyone can not make the Classic and would like to get a rack or shed measured let me know.
I have been an Official Measurer at the MN Deer Classic for over 25 years,
I’m looking to see if anyone has a current year or past years antlers that you’d like or need measured.I offer this as a public service. My time is totally volunteer.
The cost is $20 per rack.
We measure Whitetails, Moose, Bear skulls and sheds. Also if your Buck is from a state other than MN, I can still measure it and get it recognized with the Deer Classic, it just would not be able to have an entry in the MN Record Book.
Any rack that qualifies for the MN Record Book will get an automatic, (no extra cost ) entry…
Give me a call, or PM.
JackMarch 1, 2012 at 3:10 am #119069You probably have to ask Hugh Price that question, but am sure most of it is the cost of running the Deer Classic and the MN Record Book. The measurers and most Heritage staff are volunteers. An 8 X 10 is given to every Deer, it gets it’s due Recognition. If qualifying, the deer gets an automatic entry into the Record book.
Hope that helps.
JackMarch 1, 2012 at 2:27 pm #119073Glad Gobbler asked and glad you clarified. The way I read your initial post, you were pocketing the $20.
Again, thanks for clarifying.
March 2, 2012 at 2:08 pm #119086Hi Jack, Thanks for the post
How does it work with super old deer? Like, the ol’ garage rack that grandpa dusted back in the 60’s kinda thing? Do you have to have a registration tag that goes along with these things? Even the one’s maybe not so old that were archery but never scored or entered into the books. How do you verify that it was archery and not some other form of weapon? Just curious. Thansk!
March 6, 2012 at 12:46 am #119189Dennis- I tried to be quite clear that my time as a measurer is all voluntary. I have been helping the Deer Classic now for at least 25 years.
WalleyeBuster-
Older antlers measured are in the Historical category. We are only talking about the MN Record Book, and measure the antlers based on what the hunter or owner says when he turns it in. We do not require a registration tag or such before measuring. I’m quessing that some antlers taken by gun are in the archery section. If the hunter says it is an archery deer, I’m going to measure it as archery. Again we are only talking about the MN Book. If such a giant (record deer) is turned in as archery, there might be some type of lie detector involved with the Pope and Young people.
Hope that helps,
JackMarch 6, 2012 at 12:55 am #119190Swimjig,
The $20 is the cost of the Deer Classic and MN Record book.
If such a deer is eligible to the National B/C or P/y, there is probably a higher cost for those Record systems. And that is what the hunter would pay if that is what he wants his deer put into. Am pretty sure he would not have the an additional $20 for the MN Book, ( I could actually be incorrect about that). A call the Deer Classic office could clear that up.
If the hunter does not want to pay the higher costs of B/C or P/Y, he can just say he is not interested and just measure it for the Deer Classic, that would all be fine too.
