You’ll see some handliners in the fall. Not nearly as many as in the spring.

You’re right in that the generally lower flows do lend themselves to a traditional 3-way technique, but the handliners do just fine too. Those fall fish do love crankbaits!

With the lower flow in the fall, I’d stick with 3-ways, but like Jason said there are guy’s doing & catching fish in the fall. Besides Jason, my arm is still soar from hand lining with you this spring.

Last fall on pool #4 we had a big surge on flow n stage and the water got quite dirty. Those conditions regardless of the time of year is where handlining excells IMO.

    Hey Dean,

I understand the entire stage/flow process and how handlining excels in these conditions, but I’ve always wondered how much the dirty water does come into play?

Is the dirty water alone a big advantage for handlining as well?? The only thing i could think of was that your running two baits right behind each other vs. one bait with traditional methods???

I think more than anything, the precision of of which the baits can be presented in very speific locations in those water conditions just cant be dupicated any other way.Do other ways work? You bet they do,but there are many people handlining more than you think beyond the typical spring season.

Just got home from getting another 220 acres for this years deer hunts !! There is 220 behind the 120 we picked up a few years ago… & we got the 220 !! Now we have 340 and everyone around us practices QDMA Super excited for the fall now !!! On our 120, the best patch is in the back, which was a bear to get to… now, we can come from the other side easily !!
