I thought this was pretty incredible. I was visting with my taxidermist and friend – Kirk Peterson. A hunter brought in a buck and Kirk noticed something odd next to the base of it’s right main beam. There was something sticking out and initially he thought it was a sticker coming off the main beam. After he wiggled it a bit and pulled on it, out popped a broken tip of an antler from another buck. It had broken off and got lodged inbetweeen the hide and skull of this buck.

Its pretty amazing on how beat up these animals become…and survive. In 2003, I had to throw my buck away. It had gangrene from its head to tail. Never would have known it was sick as I watched it chase a doe all over my field. It had 1 tine busted off in the neck and 1 in the hind end. Never knew an animal could smell so bad
My neighbor had shot the 11 pntr that this 8 had been fighting with. The mount looks awesome with the 2 tines bondo’d and touched up

That’s pretty neat. Millions of tines get broken off every year in North America yet how many folks actually find one? That’s sort of a trophy itself.

The whitetail deer amazes and impresses me more and more each day! Their will to live has to be amongst the highest of any animal out there . They define what tough really is.
