This dandy was shot by the land owner of the land that my dad and I hunt one. My dad and him were sitting in the same box blind when he came by at 20 yards. We aren’t the best at guessing scores. What does everyone think it will score?

I would also say 140s. No matter what, that there is a dandy!

I’m thinking 155-160″. Hard to tell without a person in the background. No matter what it scores, I would shoot it all day long. Congrats to the hunter!!

That scores only a 115 and i will eat my hat. I would guess 140 or so, but hard to tell. That’s a sweet looking unique rack regardless of score. I would have loved to get that bad boy.

Likely about 115″ unless I’m grossly underestimating the mass. Nice buck. However I wouldn’t concern yourself too much over a “score”. It is a great buck and the hunter should be proud of taking such a great animal.

115″, That deer is easily in the mid 140 class all day.

The reason I am guessing 140’s is b/c his beams look like they are about 19″ long. If his main beams came around more I’d put him in the 150’s. He still is a dandy buck!

I’m suprised at the low #’s thrown at this deer. That buck is a min 150″ (gross) possibly pushing 160″ Awesome buck nontheless!

This just shows how hard it is to score a deer by pictures. I guessed it at 150, maybe 155 tops seeing it in person. My dad figured the same. When the taxidermist saw it he said 150 maybe mid 150’s also. So we figure we must be close. The taxidermist isn’t an official scorer but has mounted and measured a lot of bucks. He’s going to measure him. I will post the results.

I would also say 140-150 just cause i’ve never score a deer. That is one heck a awesome deer! I love the nice dark rack! Very nice deer!!!

Looks pretty similar to a buck that I shot last year during Muzzleloader season. I’m guessing around 147 3/8″.. Great buck nonetheless! Congrats!

From the first set of pics I would have probably guessed 135-145, if you would have put the second set up first I probably would have guessed low 150’s to maybe low 160’s. Then again I dont hardly ever get to see pics of inside/outside tines like that buck has and wouldnt have doubted being off. As you said pictures can be deseaving; just like trial cam pics at differnt angles. In reality though, the difference between a gross 140 guess and a 155 guess is hardly more than an inch a tine without any consideration given to mass; pretty hard to determine when you think of it that way.

That is a great buck, awesome character. I would have shot that deer every day of the season. IMHO a trophy is a trophy to whom ever shoots it, regardless of score. Congrats to the hunter

To clarify… I felt the deer would gross around 125″ and have at least 10″ of deductions hence 115″ net. After a closer look using the end of the thumb in one of the pics as a “scale of reference” and assuming a 15.5″ inside spread I think 135ish” gross may be more accurate. I was not trying to bash the deer or the hunter, in fact I believe if it grew it it should count – period. Scoring is brutal and typically a letdown after deductions and is why I stated not to concern himself with it. It is a great buck, I would’nt pass on it and one I would be very proud of if I’d taken it.

As a rule most guys when throwing out scores always go gross. Nets are for fishing and Boone/Crockett and pope and young books.

This is a fun game. We should play it more often.

They measured him up at 166 gross. Granted that isn’t by an official scorer and its green.

So im betting an official dry score would gross in the 150’s like a lot of you guys said.

AWsome deer congrats. I for one think the whole scoring thing is bs as far as deductions go. if the deer grew the inches every inch should count. Thats why I would never have a deer officially scored just dont believe any inches should be taken from a trophy he grew them they count

Awesome deer and he won’t shrink that much maybe a couple inches. Congrats!
