Not trying to advertise for someone on the site. Just bought a savage 220 slug gun and have nothing to say but good things about the gun. Very little recoil, extremely accurate hope to push it out to 200 yards this weekend but know it is awesome out to 150. Just have to say the gun is very fun to shoot and can’t wait to sit in a stand this weekend on Iowa’s gun opener and see what happens.

Very, very accurate gun! I used to own one of these.
I’ve owned lots of guns, and the savage slug gun was one of my favorites!
Today’s slug guns are incredibly accurate, way past 100 yards. Sometimes I do not understand why those in “rifle” areas (Wisconsin, in particular) do not use slug guns more often. I think rifles hinder kills within 50 yards, whereas slug guns excel under these conditions!!
Have you tried the Barnes expander slugs from Federal? We took 8 deer between 4 guys in the last week in SE MN with these slugs/slug guns combination! Good luck to you!

    Great to hear!

I’ve been taking a hard look picking up the Savage Bolt action slug gun and with the Leupold Firedot 1X4 scope.

There’s something about a slugs knockdown power in close quarters that gets my blood pumping! Combine that with the ability to shoot good groups out to 200yds and it makes me wonder what I need a rifle for these days.

Right now I am shooting Winchester Elite’s or something like that. I would really like to know how far this gun can reach out reasonably. The gun is a ton of fun to shoot now I just need to figure out how to hold it steady in a treestand. Good luck to all who have tags left!
