Look at the neck and shoulders on that guy! It’s very rare to see on make it to the down hill side!

Just found one more good pic of him…still a big bodied deer but antler size may be going down. Its kind of sad but I have one more big 10 on camera and he went down bigtime from last year as well…I think I may have to think about picking up a gun next year after the bow season..

I’d be thinking about ‘nutrition’ needs in the area. Otherwise, I have no idea why that loss of mass would be happening…
    Any one?

Big woods deer actually make it past 1.5yrs old. I wish it were that way in more areas. Quite a bruin!

He was a mature buck in 09′ For sure shooter all three years He has body characteristics of a really old deer; a genuine trophy in its own. I am going to agree with you that he might be on the down hill slide. But, to entertain a thought; we have had some pretty rough winters here the last two years. Older buck that has probably peaked in maturity meaning less testosterone and antler development. Paired pictures two years apart are at a period normally displaying alot of activity and thinner body structure. I think with a light winter and good nutrition, he is still going to be a great buck next year. I don’t think hes lost a ton in length, maybe some in mass. But there is a good chance that he can put on some mass again, regardless of natural regression in the right circumstances. I wish ya luck putting your tag on him.

Camera angles and a deers position do funny things. I’ve seen pics of 160″ deer look like 140″ers and vise versa.

I agree with you Coppertop about camera angle it makes him look alot bigger then he actually is in ’09…but I have about 20 pics of him this year and about 6 in ’09 and bigger in ’09…if I was any kind of hunter Id have him down and wouldnt have pics of deer shrinking on me

I have noticed several bucks that should have put on lots of inches this year compared to last didn’t. I wonder if it was because of the dry July and August.

I don’t know about his area, but if they had winters like us, that could be a large factor also.

Same here, I atribute it to tuff winter and very late spring, beans on my farms didnt get in until June, when the trail cam pic were showing framed racks already. If the crops arnt in im surrounded by a sea of barron black dirt!

My guess is that age has a lot to do with this buck losing some mass. To me he looks to be at least a 4.5 year old back in 2009 so he now he’s 6.5 or older.

Regardless – he’s a really great buck and I hope the next picture I see is of you holding him Jay!
