Where are all the Wisco guys? I want to see some BB’sD!
I wonder if the weather over there had the deer in lockdown this past weekend.

Passed 1 1.5 buck, and 2 2.5 year old bucks. Very tough hunting in Bayfield county right now. The snow does show they were out and moving, just got to figure them out.

Extremely slow weekend for our group in the Danbury area. We had 11 hunters in our camp and through 2 1/2 days of hunting, we’ve seen a total of 2 deer.

Overall harvest numbers are down significantly throughout the area so far this season and other hunters are reporting similar sightings to what we’ve experienced.

Not sure what gives, but based on trail camera sightings, offseason scouting, and days afield bowhunting so far this season, I’m under the impression that the population is down considerably in this area.

Very slow on our place in Buffalo Co. I didn’t see a deer this weekend and as a party of 5, we only shot one doe.

got this one yesterday morning. Not a huge one, but a solid buck that I’m very happy with. Passed a couple small ones Saturday morning along with a few does.

Report from So Bayfield Co. Horrible none sighted few tracks. Friend in Fredric party of 7 got 1 doe. Only deer sighted. My brother in Amery 0 for 5 . No shooting going on at any locations. We had very low deer sighting all summer so I am not suprised just suprised by the DNR calling this zone intensive harvest. There is no way the herd is high enough to allow $2 tags. Will report what friends in Sawyer county are doing.

$2 dollar doe tags and 2 legged wolves for the last 4 or 5 years is what gives. We got one deer for the 4 of us, we at least saw a few does, but not much shooting. I probably won’t be buying a non-resident tag next year, just not worth the money right, its a bummer.

Bad news for us in richland county as well, 3 hunters 2 full days and zero deer seen. Have a few trail pics but mostly all at night. All the years of eab may finally be catching up to us even though we ourselves tried to be conservative and not ever harvest more than one doe a year.

I know I had an aberration to the typical WI deer hunt this weekend and am looking forward to going back out during the up coming week!!!

My Saturday, depending on how you want to count it, I had 20 sightings… realizing that several of those were seen more than once. I know I had a pair of does in front of me three, maybe four times and if I wanted I could have added them to my count once more as I saw them first to my north, then 20 minutes later, they were 40 yards in from of me… then they moved south and did a 90 back to the east, when he stepped out, a majestic devil for our area!!! Now remember I am hunting hungry this year… One shot @ 110 yards, 60 to 70 yards later he was piled up and part of my hunt was over at 8:00 a.m., first deer in three years!!!

A definite non-typical, I am still not sure how to count it… Kind of a scepter on one side: brow tines, split g-2’s or 3’s and decent height… Did I mention the genetics in our area… not so good most of the time…

Back to the numbers story, so I saw a lot of different deer, certainly the most in I am not quite sure how long its been… My nephew saw 6, my dad 13, my two brothers not so much. Sunday, I was the only one to see any deer and that little guy had little straight spikes and I let him walk. Very little snow in our area, but a mile to the north and there was snow on the ground…

On the way home, snow go thicker once I passed Wausau until I got home where we have 4-5 on the ground.

In Douglas Cty, we call those “Rocky the 3-pt. Wonder Buck”. Lots of them around. I did, however connect with a decent buck and two does (meat hunting for the whole family). Straps for supper tonight. The buck is already cut and wrapped.

DNR is totally to blame. Bonus tags for all these years. I have a friend that runs a check station up there. You cannot bring in truck loads of fawns year after year without this happening. It is pure BS. On that note I saw nothing but a few fawms with mothers this weekend. And that was on private property. Waiting for a buck. Any buck. They still consider my area “herd control”. What a bunch of &@#%suckers.

Sounds like there is a high population of deer where you hunt. Otherwise why would you have taken out 2 does which equates to 4-6 deer eliminated from the herd next year. better off sticking to bucks when you want the population to rebound. Worked great back in the day.

My math was incorrect. 5-7 deer taken out of the herd next year.

Nice. Let the guy shoot what he wants to shoot to feed his family some meat. Goodness. I suggest you just commend him on his success. That would be a much nicer way to go about it.

I cant respond to you without out putting down CP and I wont do it. You guys read too much emotion on these links.
And I’m sure CP doesnt appreciate being labeled poor and in need of free food to support his family. Whether he is or isnt.

I think a guy should shoot whatever he is happy shooting and within the law. If you want to manage your land that is your choice, making negative comments is the wrong way to promote QDM.

Report from Crawford County. Opening day from the stand was slow. Saw a buck before shooting hours and that was it until i started to walk around. By the end of the day i saw 17 deer 2 being bucks. My dad saw 24 deer and missed a buck. Sunday was about the same for me. Saw another 17 deer, one being a small 5 pointer that i didn’t want to shoot. Dad only saw 7 sunday. I saw another doe monday morning. Plan on going back out tomorrow to at least fill me doe tag.

You added the “poor” and “support his family” part. Feeding your family deer meat doesn’t in any way mean the guy is poor. You did the labeling here.

    Anywho..back to WI updates.

Getting away from and getting into the mgmt thing… I was actually surprised at my numbers for the weekend. I think I know that 1-2; 15-16; 17-18 in my count were probably the same deer, but I was impressed to have that many sightings in a day and was actually kind of shocked to see the only deer on Sunday a.m.

It will be interesting to see what my bros. see this weekend as they are going to go back up to see if they can another deer or two harvested… I am thinking that I am going to try to get into a stand with a bow this week as that will be the only way I can tag another deer up here without purchasing a tag and I have enough tags without having to purchase another…

I say it all the time and will say it again, we need to get the politics out of the deer/wildlife management. the best part is I think most of us as deer hunters already know what we can harvest or not anymore without any help from the DNR… I know numbers of people that I have talked to have seen what was reported here by so many others, not much!!!

So according to this article (statistics provided by the DNR)
Deer History in 1962 (I was 6) there were 400,000 deer on the landscape and by the 2000 rolled around we were killing over 400,000 deer in the 9 day gun season only… I was looking for numbers pertinent to the the last three years, but am stumbling right now, so I’ll be back…
