Hey guys and gals.. hope that this post finds one and all in great spirits.. and hopefully tagged out. I wanted to share with you a video of great buck that I missed out on Saturday morning..

I was out in the tree stand with a great young friend of mine that had decided he wanted to video tape my first deer taken with my bow. So we wander out at about 6:30AM and climb up in the tree stand. Once we had legal shooting light we rattled a bit, calls etc. I think it was between 7:45 or 8:00 when he looks down at me and whispers…”big buck”. So I turn and look and sure enough.. here’s come a big 8 point buck..my friend, Brandon “Cookie” Cook is catching all this on tape. I slowly turn and grab my bow, my back against the tree. This big boy walks right up and in to bow range.. 10 yards maybe… His head disappears behind the tree and I come to full draw…except that as I draw my bow back, my arrow slides along the rest and makes enough noise to be heard.. he looked straight at me.. BUSTED!

I held until he turned and couldn’t see me any more and then I let off…He jumps and runs about 35-40 yards, outside of my comfort zone…and pauses.. then takes off up the hill.

My my my… I was heart broken.. I’ve replayed that whole thing in my head a hundred times.. why didn’t I wait till he cleared the tree to draw.. why didn’t I draw earlier..etc etc.. I know you all have been there.. shoulda woulda coulda.. But the great thing is that I didn’t chance a bad shot and he’s still out there… and hopefully I’ll get another chance.. I’ll be up in the stand on Wed.. maybe he’ll show up.. or his dad.. LOL..

You did the right thing He would have been a shame to loose on a shot you were not sure of. Worst off, you get another chance or he makes it to next year Thanks for sharing the footage.

Rule #1. Always blame the camera man. I hope you get another crack at him soon.

Thanks for the great comments guys.. I plan on getting back out there tomorrow afternoon. With any luck the deer will be moving. Last time I was in the stand, not a single deer came by.. I didn’t even hear one.

I’ll certainly let you all know if I see this guy again or we take him.. cheers!
