Just a heads up, I saw a buck chasing Doe’s this weekend. This was the first for me this year. I also talked to a couple other bowhunters that saw the same thing on Sunday. I thought I would pass on the info, I know a lot of hunters wait for this time of year.

It is getting close, back to the stand tonight!

I too saw my first chasing going on Sat. night when I was out shining the area around the cabin. Many deer sighted but only one scene of rutting/mating activity. The buck doing the chasing was only a 6pt. though and there were bigger bucks around (not there…………but around). My thought is that the doe, ready or not, was not about to “give it up” to the youngster.

In other areas I saw multiple bucks still sharing in the grazing, does lying around, and a couple raccoons mixing into the scenery! It didn’t look like there was anything to get excited about………..but I’m sure they’re on their way! I did spot a dandy 10pt. working the edge of a cornfield………..all by himself………and I began to wonder if trapping would ever be legal!!!! Just kidding!

That’s all I have for deer reports this week.

In Pope County, MN,…. same thing. Saturday 4:11 PM, a young 6 pt following close by two does. Later in the evening another small buck on the tail of a doe. Saw another large body 6 pt’er at 20 yards too – but alone. That along with 5 turkeys, a fox and a cat. …..Interesting evening.
Sunday,… ready for something better. “BLANK” – NOTH’IN! (They are starting into A LOT of scrapes in the woods now too. The bucks are really starting to work them over.)

Anyhow, there is always this next weekend. It will be a 4 day trip next time out. ……Got to do something before the gun weekend starts.

Same thing on our land by Hammond. Boys had been out two weeks ago putting up stands and saw minimal signs of activity. Went out Sunday and action has really picked up – plenty of new scrapes and rubs. Saw one nice buck – it was a nice enough one to get my heart pumping. Was good timing going out when we did, son Bob caught a trespasser taking down one of our stands. Got a good enough description of the guy and his pick up – game warden was paying him a visit yesterday. Seems the neighbors out there have been complaining about this guy trespassing for several years – never caught in the act till now. Got Jeff’s stand back – 2 year old alumi lok – good stand – would have been a major bummer to lose

Good kid – darn good head for a 15 year old! Only reason he went way back in was to get pad off of one of his stands – he remembered two years ago when squirrels absolutely trashed one of his brother’s pads left out before the season

My dad harvested a Nice 8 pointer last night as well as a doe. This is his 3rd year bowhunting and first buck with a bow. I was the proud son last night!!

It came in chasing a doe and the neck was VERY swollen. Nice 3 1/2 year old buck, perfect kill shot at 22 Yards. We were close enough in the woods I couldn’t see it happening but I could hear it. That is better then shooting one myself.

I passed on my first buck tonight. Just a 1 1/2 year old 8pt. I tried some rattling around 4:30 tonight and the 8pt. came in checking things out 5 minutes later.

After darktonight, I was driving down in the Little Trimbelle creek area and seen a nice 2 year old 8pt. with his nose to the ground in a picked bean field 40 yards from the road. I finally started driving away after watching a bit with my binoculars, when I could see three other deer entering the field. Two does and a larger 8pt. It wasn’t long before the larger 8pt seen the smaller buck and went over with his stiff leg gaint and hair straight up !!!!. He was the boss in the field tonight. I younger buck just walked by the boss buck with his head down in submission, but the big boy had nothing of it. Next thing I know the boss boy was chasing the smaller buck out of the field into the woods and not backing off at all. I have watched this many times on tv, but this was a first for me to watch this in person especially only 60 yards away.

I’m on vacation ALL next week. Guess what I’ll be doing?
