sunday morning I had a big nine pointer come through on a rub line at about ten yards. He’s probably abou 15 wide and would go close to 130″. but….. he’s probably about number 6 or 7 on the hit list. Too early and too many bigger bucks on camera, so I had to pass. Felt great to see a mature buck that came by the stand exactly how I planned. I just hope it panns out that I see a bigger one yet this year!

Knowing just a bit about your spot, I think you made the right call. You have some great deer running around and I think you would have regret it.

Goodluck on your hitlist! Bucks are really starting to move! Going to be a great next couple weeks.

I wouldn’t have passed him, but I also don’t hunt in your area. I’ve seen your trail cam pics, I wouldn’t feel bad at all about passing him.

A trophy is in the eye of its beholder and should also be measured upon the woods it comes out of.

If that buck is #6-7 on your hit list, I think you made the right call. There’s plenty of Rut left to get a crack at the bucks higher up on that list.

I passed one very similar to that last year on Oct 29th at 5 yards and was rewarded on Nov 7th with a 157″. It’s tough to pass a mature buck but it’s a lot like catch and release. The more mature bucks you pass, the easier it becomes. Good luck in chasing #1-3.

I think you made a good choice, but if it was me I I’m not so sure he would have got the green light!

You got some nice footage of him…what kind of camera do you use? I’ve always felt like if you’re questionable on whether or not it’s a shooter…then it probably isn’t. I hope you are rewarded with a easy shot on one of the other studs you have running around there

Good call considering he’s that far down on your list and it’s still early! I pass many “nice” bucks each year, of which I never have any regrets even if I don’t score a harvest for the year. It is definately all in what makes you happy as a hunter!

Nice, always good to see a decent one on his feet in daylight. Good luck working up your hitlist

Good call he will be alot better next year. You can’t kill a great buck if you shoot the first good buck that walks by. If you have that many on the hit list I’m sure you’ll get a shot at something bigger.

Sounds like you made the right choice. It always is easier to wait for a bigger one when you know they are out there. I was in a similar situation weekend and I would much rather not shoot anything then shoot a good young buck with lots of potential knowing there are good mature bucks running around on the farm.
