July 31, 2008 at 8:11 pm #702782Atta boy Pete! Good to see you getting into some nice fish.
Sorry I had to bail on you this week….Maybe next week!October 13, 2011 at 4:39 pm #202730I’ve read the entire CWD report again, along with the action plan,…and everything else that I get my hands on. Can someone please tell me where the “action plan” is for what will happen once their goal is met? Is there actually a trigger point documented that will say “we did it”? Is there any type of plan on how and to what levels they will grow the herd back to? Everything is still written in such a degree of eliminate…but w3here is the actual long term plan?
Just frustrated……

We DO Nothing Right….Some of their plans are acceptable. CWD management is out of control….
October 15, 2011 at 1:52 am #112389As a hunter nestled right in the middle of cwd zone I completely feel for you. The way it was managed here was disgusting and unfortunately it turned a lot of lifelong hunters away from the sport. I just asked my old man if he wanted to go west on an elk hunt and he said no. I think it is because he has been so disapointed in the quality of hunting around here that he doesn’t really care to go. Where I hunt is about 2 miles from where they found the first infected deer so our herd has been decimated. Don’t get me wrong a lot of hunters have been a HUGE part of the problem, my party included, but the hardcore hunters have watched as the quality and more importantly the quantity of deer has went down the sh$%&er. In the last two years the bowhunters on our property have been seeing signs that the herd is on the verge of bouncing back. Unfortunately with unlimited tags and multiple rifle seasons the deer still aren’t being allowed to bounce back. I am not hunting this weekend because it is an early doe only rifle season and we never hunt the early season with guns and I had my chance at a doe so I will be in a boat somewhere.
I really hope the addition of Dr. Kroll to the DNR can help come up with more realistic goals for our herd management. Starting with quality
management statewide. Restrict the amount of little bucks that can be shot and more does will be harvested. A balanced deer herd is a healthy herd.
I certainly wish you MN guys luck in you “defense” of CWD. I urge all of you to stand up and fight it anyway you can. Looking back on what happened here I wish I would have been more vocal and attempted to do something about the massive mismanagement of the local deer herd. Rant overOctober 15, 2011 at 2:47 am #112394Im in North Carolina right now, so I can’t see what is happening real time myself. My dad called me today asking if I knew what was going on. He said it was like a war zone with all the shooting today. The anterless season is going for a 4 days. So my dad took a drive by the neighbors…..sickning. Just at one neighbors 4 does hanging, 2 guys out with flashlights looking for 2 more that were hit, and that didn’t include the 4 shot yesterday. Other neighbot had 3 hanging.
This is just a case of GREED. 13 does taken out of less than 400 acres. Just has me rethinking why I invest so much money into my land…………
forgot to mention – its been many years since we have seen a buck over 3-1/2 years old. We have a couple does that have been around for awhile. But the average age of deer around us is 2-1/2. Crazy!
