Passed up a dandy 8 right after light this am. As he was coming through the brush I was doing my checklist. Height. Check. Mass. Oh yeah! Width. only 14″ . Came to 15 yards and sure had the heart pounding. He has great potential for next year too as he had 9 and 10 started

Setup this morning on a stand very near to where my deer bed, maybe 75-100yds? Got apple trees between us and a beaten down trail connecting the ridge with appple trees to the ridge where im in stand. Where the ridges meet seem to be a funnel point as the trail i described is very well used. This is the area where i have been getting pics of my bucks running around. Well, 10min ago rattled in my first ever buck ever. It was a little 5pt but the excitement was awesome! Ran 10yds below my tree, now hoping for “Loppy” or “Jason” to come out. First one is loppy, second is jason (named after our dad lol)

All settled in for the evening! Hunting over brassicas and a corn field! In an oak tree! Wind out of west! Been seeing lots of does in this brassica plot lately!

tonight i am set up where I killed the split g-3 buck in 2010. winds are 15-20 mph out of the north/northwest. not a great early season buck stand but you just never know… tonight might be the night there are 5 or 6 scrapes within 60 yards but the cameras are still showing mostly night time movement.

Just grunted in a 120″ 8 at first light. He was traveling alone and he got the free pass to live another day. Should be a nice buck if he gets another year on him.
