    Very nice fish.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, I am not bashing you at all, just more of an education thing. The gill hold is very hard on the fish, it places a ton of stress on them. Make sure that you support the weight of the fish by holding one hand on the gill as you are doing, and the other hand or arm under the belly to support the weight.

    Congrats on the 60″

Well it started in augest I went out to ND and got permission to hunt a huge pice of land. I called the landowner to make sure everything was cool and found out that he had leased it to someone. So it was time to start over from scrach and since I didnt have time to go scout more land I started at home looking at google maps trying to find a spot to hunt on public land, after looking for days I decided on a spot and we were off. My dad and I left on Sunday night and drove straight through and rolled in about 6:45am monday morning, I had found a spot on the map to hunt the first morning. It was a shelter belt that was about 150 yards wide and 225 yards long on one side. There was a big bean field, on the other there was a CRP field. We decided to each go down a side of the shelter belt and set up to hunt for a few hours. So we got changed and sprayed down. I packed in a stand and left the truck at 7:00am, I walked back and found a good trail that came out of the shelter belt to the bean field. There was a good tree right there, it was about 30 yards from the corner of the field. I put up my climbing sticks and hung my stand quick and pulled my bow up and my pack was still on the ground. I looked up and saw deer coming across the bean field right toward me about 300 yards away. So I put on my face mask and took off my quiver and nocked an arrow and I was ready. I looked through my binos and saw that all four deer were bucks, all in velvet, and one was a large bodied 8pt. I decided if I got a shot I was going to take him. They trotted all the way in and stopped at 20 yards. The 8pt was behind a tree and I was waiting to figure out which way he was going to go. He started to walk straight toward me so I drew my bow. He jumped the fence and stopped at 11 yards in an opening. I put a rage in the cage and could see the blood pouring out of him. I looked at my watch and the time was 7:15am. I gave him 30 mins and we took up the blood trail. After a quick track job I had my hands on my first velvet buck what a great way to start the season. By far the most fun 15 mins I have ever had on public land.
