Rifle scopes

Just bought a rifle and now have the daunting task of finding a scope for it. I’d like to hear your favorite make and model. More to the point, I’d also like to find out what didn’t work for you. 300 Rem SA Ultra Mag is what I’ll be shooting. I don’t mind going cheap if it comes with recommendations. My $35 Bushnells, still drive tacks from my 10/.22, so I don’t think I need to put 1 meeeelllyon dollars into it. I have friends that spent double the price of their rifles, on their scopes. I’m not sure the old saying “You get what you pay for.” works here, but your scope horror stories may prove that it does hold water. Or holds water out…, and fog…, nitrogen filled…, luminated reticles… My head spins.

    Thanks for your time, Shawn

I love my Leopold VX-II.. It is LIGHT YEARS better than the Simmons I had on before it. Much clearer, sharper, brighter, and a lifetime warranty. I think it was between 200-300 bucks.

By the way, if you are putting it on a 300 Ultra Super Sonic Gigantic Recoil Mag, you IMO definitely want to spend the money on a quality scope. I had a Tasco that couldn’t handle my 30-06. the recoil from big mags has a tendency to knock the snot out of scopes.

Short answer talk to a good gunsmith. My preference in a Leupold VARI-X III 3X9. I have one on my 300 mag and have had no problems. I think any good quality magnum scope will work fine and don’t forget to buy the best rings you can as they are the weak link, especially with a magnum.

Leupold it will be then. Thanks for the tips on the rings too, Bass. 300 Ultra Super Sonic Gigantic Recoil Mag. I like the sounds of that, MossBoss. I sold my truck last year, bought a lil bitty VW diesel. I had to regain my masculinity somehow. The way my hairline is retreating off my forehead (fivehead now), next year I’ll have to pull up to hunting camp in a Hummer, go scouting on a Harley, and lob grenades. I appreciate your time, guys.

    LOL Shawn.

Sold my truck and went to an Expedition this year. Maybe next year I’ll get a 10 gauge to make up for it!!

Good luck with the scope shopping. Take a look through some Nikon’s too. They are very nice as well.

sounds like you ahve been taking hunting lessons from my relatives. every year at deer hunting, it is like have a RAMBO reunion. everyone gets to see the latest and greatest toys. well i can’t wait for the day when we can hunt with granades. I will get me a 40mm luancher and that way, we will have them skinned, processed, and cooked all in one shell.

good luck hunting this year, and oh by the way, i use bushnell scopes.
