I thought about this last night. What do I want to do differently this year than any year prior.

#1 for me was to spend more time in the woods with my bow. Mother Nature ruined all my plans for bow hunting the areas we gun hunt by piling 2ft+ of water over the entire area. I was forced to explore other options, but even those left me wanting for more.

#2 will be to use the new ground blind I have and get my kids out for some evening experiences.

#3 has me looking for new grounds to hunt, which I’m already in the process of. I dusted off the plot map book I have and I’ve already been in contact with a few prospective landowners. I’m looking at smaller tracts of land that deer might use as funnels and such. I’m hoping to get access to 50% of the property I’m looking at. I know that is a high number.

#4….hunt on nights when it’s NOT raining…I swear every night I planned to hunt last fall it was rained….that got old in a hurry.

What are you planning to do differently if anything at all?

Definitely going to be putting in some standing corn food plots to hold deer after gun season so I might get a crack with my muzzleloader or late archery. Setting up some mineral for the deer to utilize will also be on the list. I hope to do more bowhunting as mentioned-its WAAAYYYY too much fun to neglect opportunties to get out. And lastly I am hoping to get a few more trail cameras so I can see exactly what I have roaming around the property!

Hopefully have more control over my hunting spots, ie. posting and prosecuting tresspassers. Worst year ever for me last year!

X2 also on a couple more cameras

RR has a good point. I would actually like to harvest a nice buck with my bow this year. Passed on many 120-140 inch deer. Got tough after a while, but this year I hope it pays off

This year I plan on making a diligent effort to eliminate scouting during the season and spending that previous scouting time actually sitting in the stands that i’ve already placed.

Year in and year out I tell myself that I won’t scout during the season, but this year I am 100% committed to it. I plan on having 12-14 stands hung, limbed out and left alone until the season starts by Early August.

LOL!! That was one thing I forgot to put on my list. I wanna get back over to WI this year. At least there I can shoot a Deer with fewer than 4pts on a side.

I can’t think of to many things I want to do different this year. If I had to pick one I would say ground blind hunting allot more.

Food, food, food! Going big this year, might be a little much to chew all at once but I’m going to give it everything I’ve got I am also not checking my cameras more than once a month, no exceptions!

I am off to a good start.

    1. Seed is purchased for my ground and its twice as much as previous years.

    2. Just committed to a lease opportunity that I could not pass up.

    3. Hunting Whitetails in Saskatchewan, CA for my once a year trip. Never hunted CA before.

How will I fit it all in?

Already doubled the amount of food plot from last year with tractor and plow. Plant 5 more apple trees(planted 5 last year). Started some pumpkin plants already, and will plant them. Build one more tower stand for rifle season. Added a mineral site. Cut an access trail so I don’t walk through my food plots to check cameras and get to stands. Add another camera and CHECK LESS OFTEN…

    Wow……..longer than I thought!

    Hey Guys,
Hopefully get a deer in 2011. Also shoot more and I recently got a Nikon Archers Choice rangerfinder so I’ll try not to blow it when a P@Y shows up. Also find a few more places to hunt and maybe look at some of the newer
trail cameras out there with longer battery life.
