I’m not sure how much rain we are getting…but the boys don’t like it. They woke me up.

We had almost 10″ in areas around western Ks this past week .The local lake came up about 10 feet.I guess that means it got wet.

The Cedar here has water coming down from the area just north of Vinton. The storm that passed through the other day producing those tornados had alot of rain in it too. The town Of Vinton has put out advisories that theres three roads that are going to be closed. That water is coming twards Cedar Rapids and this will be the third time the city gardens have been flooded. After the third time some won’t replant. These are garden spots of old fertile river loam on a lower lying area but it still takes a good flood to reach them. Just seen on the news where the planting in the corn belt is 3 weeks behind and they expect high fructose corn suryp beverage drinks and other items that use it to go higher in price.

It is incredible how well deer can swim though. I have encountered a lot of deer at night swimming across the Mississippi and Wolf river. One spring when the Miss was up about 4 or 5 feet, a doe came out on the MN side, jumped in, and made the swim across. I was absolutely stunned to see how straight it swam. Heck, if it had been me, I wouldn’t have made the main channel marker and would be about 50 miles down stream.

The first time I saw a mule deer plunge into Lake Oahe I about filled my pants. I sat and watched this deer swim a good 400 yards out into the river and over to the next point. Very cool!!

If they were fishing for halibut, they were going about it all wrong…

Although, they did get about a charter boat FOR FREE, so maybe they are smarter than I thought….
