I know nothing about anyting in your area. But do you really think they would allow bucks to be a part of this?
lickPosts: 6443December 14, 2010 at 5:26 pm #96965Unfortunately in the CWD zone they want them ALL dead
I can’t imagine gutting a doe with a fawn embryo in her
Hopefully NO ONE participates in this hunt

Given the timeframe it’s probably going to be difficult to tell without close inspection, what’s a buck and what’s a doe.
Unfortunate for sure.
December 14, 2010 at 5:27 pm #96967I haven’t had a clue what the WI DNR is up to the last few years… and neither do they! Want proof? Go for a drive from WI into the U.P of MI. You will go from seeing zero (or very little) deer sign to tons in the matter of miles. It’s quite obvious we’ve decimated our own herd.
les_welchPosts: 1007December 14, 2010 at 6:16 pm #96973It’s beyond comprehension. They are purposely exterminating deer in many areas, people recognize what they are doing yet it doesnt stop. Someone over there needs to be arrested. One or two key people over there are mentally ill and nobody will F@#@#^g STOP THEM!!!!!
December 14, 2010 at 8:11 pm #96980When is this nightmare going to end?!?!?! I think its been about 8 years since CWD was discovered here and we’ve been dealing with bountys, unlimited tags and liberal seasons ever since. Deer have become all but an endangered species down around here and it sickens me to think about what has happened to the herd around here.
What’s 100x worse than all of these unlimited tags and seasons (in my opinion) is the #%@&ing sharp-shooting the DNR continues to do after the season. Nothing can wipe out the herd more in an area than sitting over a huge pile of corn at night in the dead of winter with unlimited ammo. Talk about making a guy sick… A couple years back, I was heading down the highway around Madison and came upon a truck hauling a 20 foot flatbed trailer piled 5 feet high with dead deer. I can only assume they came from a night of sharpshooting and its an imprint forever etched in my mind. Not pretty.
My last thought on all of this is how do you get a youngster excited about deer hunting when he or she goes and sits in the woods for hours on end and doesn’t see a single thing. A young kid is only going to appreciate watching some chattering squirrels running around the woods for so long before they are going to lose interest and want to head back to the house to play vids or check their myspace page.
Thanks Keith Warnke
December 15, 2010 at 12:40 am #97010One thing I find funny is the #’s the DNR put out this year in that WI killed more deer this year than last, even when they didn’t allow antlerless deer to be shot in several units up north. Does anyone actually believe the #’s the DNR gives out. Also listening to a lot of hunters who hunted a lot and either not seeing any deer to only seeing one or two deer. How long do you think it will be before people stop hunting. I think not long.
December 15, 2010 at 12:50 am #97011So how many deer do you really think will be taken during this? Give me a break

We can hope none. But that doesn’t mean that it isn’t a stupid idea to have a season from Jan-March
I know I don’t actually hunt there so this doesn’t affect me But I know guys that do and feel sorry for them

How many farmers do they anticipate will participate in this?
Probably not too many. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think all of their friends and relatives are allowed to hunt their land as well.December 15, 2010 at 1:41 pm #97046No one likes the idea of the hunt, but does anyone have any idea on how to control CWD .

Has CWD ever killed a human ? ? ?
It has been in the herd and it will never be completely gone NEVER
Do you see the western states with CWD freaking out and trying to kill off the whole herd NOPE Just WI
December 15, 2010 at 2:45 pm #97057Pat are you saying, don’t worry about the heard, just the numbers?

That’s because we live in the Uber-liberal Nanny State of Wisconsin where the Government thinks they can control EVERYTHING, including nature.
First they had to save us from zebra mussels, then Eurasian Milfoil, then it was CWD and now its VHS. They can’t get their heads around the fact that nature will adapt and be just fine if we LET IT! It might not be what we want it to be, but it will adapt and survive in some way or fashion.
December 15, 2010 at 3:12 pm #97063It is sad in all respects, I understand what you are saying Pat.
lickPosts: 6443December 15, 2010 at 3:55 pm #97069land owners are allowed to let people hunt there land, no public is open for this hunt from what i know.
December 15, 2010 at 7:10 pm #97091This keeps getting better and better. THANK YOU WISCONSIN DNR! Not to take away from your thread but, ever been to a wi dnr public meeting????? What a joke…..
December 16, 2010 at 12:48 am #97107I beleive i read somewhere that CWD has been in western states scince the 60’s. Does this mean that not all animals are suseptable to CWD? They still seem to have plenty of healthy deer in western states.
December 16, 2010 at 1:20 am #97108This is very frustrating. I have huntable land in the regular and CWD units both. I can tell you I have seen more deer in the non-cwd unit in one sit than in my 8 sits in the CWD unit.
BrianDPosts: 12December 16, 2010 at 11:26 pm #97158I was in the Coast Guard for 7 years. I hunted in Michigan, then Wisconson. I own land in Minnesota. i went from seeing 10-15 deer a night on average to maybe 1 to 3 a week in Minnesota. Granted the deer we harvest a re big an healthy here, but it does turn into some long days and weeks in the woods seeing nada!
