I wonder how much this actually happens I also wonder what would happen in areas such as mine where APR has been introduced, what would the authorities say Oh yes congrats to your dad on the buck

    WOW~! Interesting. Thanks for sharing!

I heard something kinda like that this weekend too. (years ago) A guy was making a one man drive to a single guy on the other end. They only had buck tags. The stander heard a shot and knew it was a buck his buddy was shooting at. A single deer came out, it was a doe and ran off. The stander asked the walker why he shot at a doe. Of course they argued for a while because the walker said he shot at a buck. The backtracked the doe and found out that when it jumped the drainage ditch before the stander saw it, he dropped both sides. Crazy stuff.

This makes me worried about shooting a wall hanger this time of the year. Needless to say, we won’t be dragging it by the antlers.

I think this is more of a problem it areas that lack food sources. For the most part in farm country, it seems some can keep their antlers into late winter eary spring. In blocks of wooded country with no fields for miles, I think this happens a lot faster. I have seen quite a few drop in late December bow hunting the east side of Black River Falls. But on the west side, I’ve seen them sporting just about to turkey season. Never have I seen it this early though.

Congrats to your dad! This WI gun season on one of my bow leases, the land owner’s friend shot a buck and both sides fell off. The deer had been hit with a bow earlier in the year and I’m guessing stress had a lot to do with him shedding his antlers when he tipped over.
