Those smallies have some awesome colors and markings. What was the winning weight, Wade?

James, There are some BEAUTIFUL smallies down this way! It was a very tough bite but Carl managed a limit of three bass and I believe he was pushing 8.5 to 9 lbs but someone will have to confirm.

There’s 4 or 5 of us who have been using the forum so far. We’re still trying to get the others comfortable with these fancy new televisions with keyboards.

I believe the weight was around 8.25 lbs over all. The bigger smallmouth was around 3.25 lbs. Nothing to impressive but just a bunch of nice fish.

Congrats Carl! Glad somebody figured them out. From what I’ve seen the average winning weight on Spirit is 9 + or – a half pound, so your sack is right in that range.

Man, it seems like every time I miss a Big Spirit tourney the fishing is tough and limits are hard to come by. You guys should pay me to make sure I show up for Big Spirit tournaments…

THAT’S my problem! I haven’t been fishing out of my own Lund Bass Machine so far!

    Next month…

I would like to hunt Buffalo County this fall, what are the chances of going up to a land owner/farmer to get permission? Any tips would be great. Thank You; Doug

Probably less than 5% to hunters that do not believe in and practice qdm. Just saying, that county is legendary not only because of the terrain and available nutrition, but because the strong majority of land owners and hunters have been working together to build a healthier herd and big bucks for the last decade or longer. It would be a lot of money for some venison

Or a celebrity!!! I’m sure I could get you on a few farms if you had Lee and Tiffany (mainly Tiffany) with you.

What are your reasons for wanting to hunt in Buffalo County?

I’ve been hunting in Buffalo Cty for over 15 years and I’ve never owned any land there. There’s always a chance to knock on someone’s door and get permission to hunt but it will most likely take a lot of knocking. Some of the locals that I know there have trouble finding a place to hunt on private land even though they are from the area. Finding a place to hunt or finding a lease in Buffalo Cty. is usually found through building relationships.

There is a reason you cannot get on private land near Buffalo County… it has something that is desireable…. a QDM program that is practiced pretty much county wide and the big Bucks to prove it

If you do get permission, it will likely be a “you shoot it, you shoulder mount it” situation. There are families that get in big arguments over what is a shooter and what isn’t.

Good Luck on your search…. and if you do find a person that is willing to let you hunt, Please PM me ASAP and tell them you have a fellow buddy who would love to hunt as well.

Why would you worry ? When something is special and out of the ordinary, that’s when it becomes harder to obtain. If everywhere had big bucks, Bufallo Cty would just be another county… I’d like that scenario better.

I knew from the second you posted, you were trying to start something. Please go back to the other forum as this is not what IDO is about. I will not reply so there is no need to comment. Thank You

Sorry not trying to start anything here, if you noticed where I live,I now could be in Buffalo Co. in less than 15 minutes.
I was just getting some ideas if it would even be possible to get permission to hunt over there?

PackingHeat I truly believe you weren’t trying to start anything…. I believe that you probably want to shoot a big buck and figure BC is your best option to do that. Good Luck knocking on doors. I’ve heard of it happening but it will take some work

Is there any public land in BC? If so, Is it treated like a meat locker?

While Buffalo County is legendary, the entire Mississippi Valley region produces giant bucks…don’t limit yourself, there is amazing hunting all around this area…just a thought…

There is a whole bunch of public land in Buffalo County where you could hunt. It is called the Tiffany Bottoms. If you have a boat, compass, and GPS you can get into a lot of areas that aren’t hunted very much at all and there are some huge deer in there. I’ve live in the Pepin/Buffalo County area for all my life and have hunted here and it is tough to find someone to let you hunt but they are out there. Good Luck!

Thank you for the input, it’s getting pretty late this year, but it has the wheels spining for next year.
Sounds cool throwing a buck in the Ranger hauling it out

If your intention was to hunt Buffalo county then I apologize for my post. I am very familiar with where you live as I grew up minutes away and spend every non-working minute in the area to this day. I also know many of the lobbyist on both sides of the APR argument in that area and based on other threads here it was clear what what you do and do not believe in. I respect both sides deeply and may the most popular be rewarded, but one side most definitely does not believe in the same values common to Buffalo Cty. Again, I apologize and was trying to keep the APR argument where it belongs.
