Where do you guys think the rut is at in West Central to to North West Wi area. I bow hunted the first week in Nov. and it seemed like the small buck were chasing doe(very warm that weekend). Have not seen alot of movement for the last week. Has the main rut ended or is it yet to come?

In my area SE MN, I think we are in lockdown mode. Bucks are hanging tight with a doe that is about ready to be bred. I am not seeing a ton of movement by does or bucks. This usually lasts a week or so then the big boys tend to move again once all the does are bred in their area and they start to expand their range looking for the last few does to breed. Consistently every year the biggest bucks I see is Thanksgiving week, I see far fewer bucks that week but they are usually bigger!

I know that here in portage wis.dells area I witnessed some 150 class bucks breeding about 2 weeks ago so I am saying the first wave is done.

I believe we are in lockdown mode also with the big boys tending does and not traveling too far. Hopefully that will change by the weekend.

Yep…I witnessed numerous bucks chasing does last week and now this week I have yet to see a deer, definitely lockdown mode.

I’m pretty sure they are in lockdown here in NW Iowa too. All ive seen last 3 days is lost fawns and a couple 1.5 year old bucks. Hopeing by this weakend they are back up on there feet again.

OK…Now I dont know if my earlier post is accurate. I went this evening and seen a total of 10 bucks most of which looked to be 1.5 years old, however I had one old fella about 10 yards away just couldnt bring myself to take a busted up rack. I had two others that sounded mature chasing does all over the place. The big boy was as aggressive as I’ve seen, I hit the grunt call a couple of times and he let out some pretty intimidating snort wheezes as well as grunts. These bucks were responding to the can call like you woudnt believe. So now I dont know what is going on

2 mature bucks on their feet for me as well, one last night out chasing a group of does and one this morning out cruising by himself. Of course I wasn’t out hunting and both were on properties I can hunt. Heading out this afternoon so wish me luck. Appears the breeding phase may be winding down and the search is back on!
