Last night with the temps dropping and a front coming in, it was a perfect storm situation when it comes to deer hunting. The chasing phase was in full swing in our neck of the woods with 8 bucks passed up opening weekend by our group. Our goal is to try and shoot 3.5 year old bucks or older, and we are starting to see the results. Last year we were able to get two 130″ bucks and this year we upped the ante a little thus far.
I almost skipped class last night, but couldn’t because im running otta days and excuses..lol
My grandma at 73 years old started the evening off with shooting her buck. Congrats grandma on a 140 2/8 in eight pointer. She made a couple great 250 yard shots to drop her buck.
Five minutes later my dad had another buck come through after passing in his words “the biggest 6 pointer i have ever seen” and he thought this buck was a shooter. One shot out into the swamp and the deer disappeared.
I proceeded to get a phone call from my dad saying that there were a couple nice bucks down. Five minutes later i was on the road heading north of Pierz from St. Joseph. For pics
On the way up, the crew went and looked for my dads buck to no avail. Got the pics of my grandmas and caped it out last night
This morning got up and went to look again for my dads deer. Found it in the first five minutes. Funny how deceiving the swamp grass is when its dark out versus daylight. His deer was a solid Eight point that i had pics of over the summer. Didnt have time to score it but should be right around the 130″ range. Had a test at 11:00 that i did make it to.
Grandmas weighed in at 201 lbs and i left before they weighed my fathers. Congrats to Grandma and Dad on a couple great central MN bucks
