At around 5:30 I got my freshly washed scentblocker on, put the bow in the car, and headed up to the farm at about 5:45. When I arrived at the farm, I got my bow out, put my rattling bag in my pocket, put my grunt call in my pocket, and sprayed down before the long hike to the stand. On my way to the stand, I just had the feeling that this was going to be the day. The weather was perfect, it was 28 degrees and not a leaf was moving. I just had the feeling that this morning was going to be the morning! I’ve been telling everyone next Saturday is going to be the day but I was wrong. I arrived at my 17 foot ladder stand in the clover plot at 6:30. The moon was about half full and you could see really good in the woods. At about 7:05, I got the buck bomb-doe in estrous. I shook it up and sprayed for about 5 seconds. At 7:10, I heard something to my left on the main logging trail. I just figured it was a squirell but got up and knocked an arrow just in case. Sure enough it was a deer. It stopped right before it came into the plot, I thought I was going to get busted. It walked three more steps, then turned. Since it was still pretty dark, I just saw it was beyond the ears, pulled back and let the carbon express mayhem fly. I watched it run off with its tail high in the hair. I though to myself, damn I think I missed. Well, I then got down to see if I could find my arrow and any sign of blood. I could not find my arrow and just as I was about to give up, I found two specks of blood. I then gathered my things and got out of there. I went home and couldn’t wait to get back out to see if I got one, whatever it was. I waited until 11 to go back up to the farm. Two buddies of mine came up with me to help track. We hopped on the fourwheeler as well as my grandpa. When we got down to the plot, we headed up the logging trail looking for blood. We finally found a decent trail of blood and it was getting a little better. As soon as the deer headed into the woods, my arrow layed there in half without the broadhead. There was a nice pile of blood and then we couldnt find anymore. We scattered to see if we could find the next spot of blood. I looked up and seen there was another hunter headed our direction. He motioned for me to get over there. I thought he was mad about us bloodtrailing a deer on the property he was hunting. He wasn’t mad at all. He told us that he just saw the buck. He said at 10:30 when he got to the base of his tree halfway up the hill, he looked over and he saw a buck bedded down. He said the buck then got up and ran down the hill with its tail down. The guy said the buck was a huge, darkhorned buck. I just smiled and we exchanged phone numbers becasue he was going to head up the hill and glass the bottom to see if he could see it. Since the buck was still living at 10:30, we backed out and headed back up to the house for lunch to let the buck sit a little longer. At the table, the clan discussed what we should do next. We decided that I should walk the logging trail with someone, and then have two guys walk the blood trail where the guy last saw him. We headed back down to the plot, where I got my bow out and knocked an arrow. Grandpa and I walked down the logging trail, while Tyler and Tim walked up to last blood. We walked slow just in case the deer was bedded down still alive. About ten minutes passed and we were at the pine trees, and the hill wrapped around. Right before the pines was a big brush pile and we figured he was probably in there. I walked to the pines while Tyler and Tim walked the hillside. Grandpa kind of was behind me and he went toward the brushpile. He told Tyler and Tim to come talk to him. Grandpa put his arms around them, and said, “Guys look at that F$@!ing deer!” Tim then said, “Korry get over here!” I said, “What?! Do you see him?!” Tim replied, “Just get over here.” I walked over there and saw a rack I have never saw anything like before. I walked slowly up to it just incase it got up. It was dead!!! I put my bow down and I can’t describe the feeling I had. All I could do is put my hands on the head and thought is this real? Am i dreaming? After hand shakes, high-fives, and hugs, I held the rack of my deer of a lifetime. We gutted it out, (Tyler did because I couldn’t would of stabbed myself LOL), and then put the monster on the front of the fourwheeler and headed back up to the farm! Grandma took pictures and then we took it to the outfitter next to our land to show them guys. They scored it for me, it scored 173 gross! The outfitter, Mark, told me he could take pictures and I couldn’t disagree with that. He took me up to a nice place and we too a lotttttt of pictures of it. After pictures we registered it and the rest is history!
