sounds like fun! I made it out yesterday (didn’t get out on Saturday or Sunday ), launched at Beanies and stayed pretty close to there… trolled for a while, marked some fish but couldn’t get any takers. Switched to jigging – crawlers, leeches, fatheads… found a few schools of active fish, typical Croix mixed-bag – Crappies, Whities, Sheephead, Walleye. Brought a few home for the fryer last night, mmm mmm good a nice mix of Croix Crappies and Walleye. The biggest walleye we caught taped out at 21″.

The hot jig color appeared to be orange but I think they’d like just about any bright color. As for bait, I’d give it a tie between minnows and crawlers. The sheephead seemed to love the leeches.

I made it out for a short while last night. Not long enough to really focus on any one thing. Caught a short trolling and 2 shorts on crawlers. Lost a couple good bites. 20 foot was the magic range in the area I was in.

Fished the Croix today. Caught my limit all were saugers and one walleye. I caught lots of fish. Biggest was a 31 inch walleye and a 24 inch walleye. Those came from down a ways in pool 3. My limit fish all came from the Croix. I caught around 15 fish. Lots of shorts.

Also got a 21 inch sauger. Two sauger I kept still had eggs. Caught the 24 inch eye on jig and minnow. All others came trolling cranks and handlining.Number 5 Firetiger shad rap color was the hot lure.

All fish came from around 20 feet of water.

    Good Luck,

    Jimmy

Wow. That sounds like the “perfect” day out there! Nice work.

I fished in the FLW tourney Saturday and zeroed. I had a few big fish spots on pool 3 that I knew would have produced. My boater didn’t know how to handline and he didn’t want to run up there. Well thats where I popped the two biggest eyes.

I caught the 24 inch eye on a orange Knuckleball jig.

I wish I would have taken some pics, but I didn’t bring my camera with. Every time I do all I catch is small fish.

The Griz saw me pop the 24 incher, all I got was huh nice eh!!

I was trolling a sand flat and thats all I will say. And I was using leadcore and when I hit the break thats when I would get hit. At one point I caught I caught a few on 6 passes in a row.

    Good Luck,

    Jimmy

I made it our about 3pm on Monday. What a completely AWESOME day! There wasn’t even a ripple on the water how rare is that? I lost a half dozen minnows in 20′ but I just couldn’t hook up. I had a stinger hook on too but to no avail. I did get a tiny smallie in 20′ trolling cranks. What was he doing there?

I had to head back to Beanies to pick up my brother after work and the fishing league. Than we hit the Hudson channel for a big BINGO. It sounded like everybody was doing good on opener there??? 6 boats and 1 walleye brought in for the night now that’s slow

Still plenty of people disobeying the no wake rule but to each his own!

    Good Luck,

    Ferny.

I never saw one fishing boat disobey the no wake rule. It was all pleasure boats and wake ski boats. Hell I almost go run into by a cruiser, the guy yelled at me to get out of the way when I was making a trolling pass. We exchange pleasentries to say the least..

But it paid off for him. My Buddy Dave climbed into a tree about 5 PM last night (yes I gave him a WTF are you doing in a tree in this wind) Just to have this dandy buck coming barreling across the set aside field right to him. The buck stopped directly below him and he put a rage in his cage The buck ran about 80 yards and piled up on the creek bank. Congrats Dave

I didn’t hunt but there was a suprising amount of deer out in fields last night, mainly in protected areas, despite the high wind.
