I am toying with the notion of picking up the Primos Scarface Decoy. I do not bow hunt, so it would be used for about 4-5 days each season. My plans would be to use it in combination with rattling.

I hunt in relatively thick/dense woods, where a 50 yard shot is a LONG shot, however, there are a couple clearings on the west side of my 40 where you can see for about 400 yards.

So, my question is two fold – who uses decoys, and do you think that my set up/situation is worth spending $150 on this guy?

    Welcome to iDo benihana

I personally gave up on decoys

I think using one during gun season would be too dangerous Just my opinion thou

I agree, someone might try putting a tag on your decoy during gun season! With bow hunting, I only leave it at home during the early season-otherwise it’s with me every trip.

I agree, I never use decoys during gun season for safety reasons, however during pre-rut like now I use one every chance I can. I actually purchased some Walmart special several years ago that is intended for target use that bucks respond to on a regular basis. It cost me around $60 and it does the job

I’ve killed my last two archery bucks over flambeau’s “boss buck”. I agree though that it might not be a very good idea to use it during gun season.

    Thanks for the replies guys!

I understand the concerns about the gun hunting, and will hold off on getting one until I take up bow hunting

Thanks again, and I am excited that I came across this board….there seems to be a lot of great knowledge, and I am excited to sort through it all!!

Oh yeah, Welcome to In Depth Outdoors!

We are glad to have you!

If I’m hunting private land during rifle, I have used a decoy before but like people have mentioned caution needs to be used when you are in close proximity to the decoy, especially on field edges and open fields by roads!
