unusually early rut activity

I’ve noticed quite a few posts about observing bucks engaging in aggressive or rutting type activity unusually early in the year.

I haven’t seen much action yet, but last Saturday evening two good friends of mine shot bucks. Both bucks were mature (probably 150 class) and both were grunting and chasing does. Rather strange for October 9 especially considering it was in the mid 80s.

Could be the timing of the full moon this year?

I think it’s alot of things. Crazy year, where everything seems two to three weeks ahead of the ‘norm’.
This time last year we had rain and snow all month in October, then November was like the weather we’re having now.
I felt last year we had a ‘split’ rut, and the fawns I saw around here echoed that observation. I had fawns with spots til September. That all being said, the does got out of their ‘usual’ cycles, (moon full or not) and so I personally think there are a bunch of those does coming in estrus in the last few weeks.so from what I’m reading and seeing, it could be a looong rut season ‘if’ we have some normal weather around here this year….

    Hey MF73,
see flatlandfowler’s post right about this and check out the spot on fawns with a date of 9/25.

I saw fawns with out spot by the 10th of August….
