drove by the lake today. West side is open as far as you can see out. In front of wilderness there is some ice…but past that looks open. East side from agate all the way down is white ice…cannot see open water. Southern bays were open. With this south wind today, should get that ice moving.
April 30, 2008 at 4:56 pm #680779I ju got a confirmed report that the ice is blowing into Garrison Bay as we speak.

April 30, 2008 at 8:54 pm #680873We have plans to bring the auger in the boat. Anchor to the ice and take off walking. Just hope our sheet of ice doesn’t drift apart from the boat….
April 30, 2008 at 8:56 pm #680875You can see the ice piling on top of itself in the distance on the webcam….The north and west side is going to be a mess!
April 30, 2008 at 9:44 pm #680885Blew out pretty good in front of Hunters, I can see it maybe out a 1/2 mile to the south…

April 30, 2008 at 10:47 pm #680901The east side sure opened up.Unfortunatly this means Bob is going to have visitors soon
April 30, 2008 at 11:18 pm #680912The east/So.east winds that we are now experiencing has blown the ice open along the east shores. Some areas has ice up near shore! such as the new public access at Liberty and the Cedar Creek access is iced in!!! If someone wants to launch there..they might need a backhoe!
We should have ice out by this Saturday/Sunday I would guess!!!!!!!!!
May 1, 2008 at 2:26 pm #680631Hey Kooty,
Maybe I need to change my opener plans and come fish with you. You and I have a very good track record “parking on the ice” and fishing by the outboard!
May 1, 2008 at 3:20 pm #680995I’ve told that story many times recently.
I tried calling Weber to see if you guys have a contingency plan for opener since I’m sure Red won’t be open.
May 1, 2008 at 3:52 pm #681015We are all still going to his cabin. Lots of smaller, interesting looking lakes near him to fish if need be. Still a week and 2 days away. I’m keeping my fingers crossed, but it doesn’t look good for Red.
May 1, 2008 at 3:57 pm #681020Did the snob get his boat back yet?? It’s not like he has other things to do before opener, but I wondering if he’d have it ready by then.
May 1, 2008 at 5:59 pm #681094Yes he did. He’s fussing about all the stuff that they didn’t do right.
I think he’s got a fishing league event tonight on Tonka.May 1, 2008 at 6:02 pm #681097Oh god, just spend 30 minutes listening to him whine. Sounds like Ranger did a “crack” up job. Please be sure to rib him about every 5 minutes next weekend. Just walk up to his boat and say, “Is that shelf suppose to be so crooked? Why did you mount your GPS puck here?? Are they really going to leave that fiberglass exposed like that?”
October 11, 2010 at 5:19 pm #201775This post has been a while in the making…..I took a new job with one of my customers. So for the last two weeks I have actually had to “Work” Really though, it has been a bitter sweet deal, I’ve been doing sales and estimating with OCLM for almost 14 years and have had a great time there. I have had the pleasure of working with some of the best contractors in SE MN and also a great bunch of co-workers. Together I figure we put up nearly 500-600 houses plus all the decks, additions, basements etc, etc roughly $20,000,000 of materials. Lots and lots of thank you’s and hand shakes had to be made lately. to everyone who has ever dealt with me and OCLM in the last decade and a half.
Any way….This year for my B-day, Carrie & Isaac came and spent the weekend with me down at the hunting shack. It all started out cause she complained of me always being gone hunting, I told her to come with one year and now this has kind of become an anual event. So Friday Oct 1st, we took Isaac out of school and headed down. We went out all morning long and did a couple of practice climbs up and down the buddy stand I wanted to try and hunt out of. He did great and we went back in to have lunch and play. About 3:00 or so I asked Carrie to help him a shower (scent free and all) I did the same a little later (With no help from Carrie ) and we headed out. I had some 3-D blind material that needed to get hung up too so we grabed some zip ties and if nothing else it would help keep him busy for the first 30 minutes or so. He is only 6 and needs things to keep him occupied. We finished the netting and he got his game system and started the day. A few games on his hand held and he was already bored. We played some thumb wrestling, played some rock-paper-scissors and he showed the ole’ man how to play some of his computer games too. About 6:00 or so a doe made her way through and with all the excitement of Rock-Paper-Scissors she got past us with-out even touching the bow. SOB I thought to myself, I missed out on the opportunity with Isaac in the stand with me. I was totally kicking myself. We watched this doe for what seemed like forever – just out in the cut corn field – just out of range – when she was in range there were trees in the way. I closed my eyes and asked the big guy to give me one more chance; Whether it be with this doe or another one; let me try and close the deal…Well it work 6:45 she came back through the woods walked right underneath the stand and stopped perfectly broad side at 20 yards. Thwack…she spun around and ran off – then she stumbled and tipped over backwards. Isaac was yelling. “She’s down Dad, she’s down. You got her” It was great. He was high fiving and excited. He wanted to get down right away. I told him we had to look where she was standing before we got down. Then I took him to find the arrow and follow the blood trail. All the while he just wanted to go see her. But, he paid attention and did a great job the whole night. I was proud of him.
lickPosts: 6443October 11, 2010 at 5:27 pm #88299Awesome I still remember my first bowhunt with my son “top heavy” he was 3 and I shot an average doe. it’s a memory I will never forget and think about often. Once they are grown up and on their own you would give any thing to have that moment back Thanks for sharing this with us
October 11, 2010 at 5:36 pm #88302Awesome job Bob !!!!! After I talked to you at the gas station I went home and told Gunner how well Isaac did in the blind and that you had got one Nothing better than getting the kids out
October 11, 2010 at 6:18 pm #88308That is a great story. Hopefully he will be hooked for life and you’ll have someone in the stand with you for the next few years…until he kicks you out of the tree!
October 11, 2010 at 8:34 pm #8832350Years ago I was that little boy. Of course there was no computer game or rock paper scissors either. But I was sitting with my father and had the same excitement experience. Congrats on molding your boys life. I think of that day often. I’m sure my sons do too.
