Been busy the last few days and wasn’t able to post much. Anyhow, last Friday was able to get out. Plan was to shoot a doe if one presented a shot. This year Rob convinced me to try out the 3 blade rage, so I was anxious to see the devastation from the new broadhead. Was hunting a corn field that night and had 2 small bucks come out at 5:50. At 6:00 a nice doe appears and walks within 25 yards, turns broadside and I pull back. Once anchored she turns and is slightly quartering to me. Put the pin right behind the shoulder and let fly. Knew it was a good hit as I could see my Easton Tracer hit the mark. Watched her take off and lost her in some tall grass about 50 yards from the stand. Before she hit the grass I picked up my range finder and could see the entry hole…perfect. Waited till dark, went back to camp to get my wife and daughter to track and recover the deer. When we got back to the tree, I recovered the arrow, had good blood on it, but could tell that from the looks of it, it blew threw the guts coming out. Had good blood (but not the sign I was expecting using the new rage) right away but lost it about 15 yards or so in the tall grass. Searched for about 20 minutes before I decided to check out an area where I thought I heard her expire. Sure enough found her after about 15 minutes. No blood from the entry hole and the exit was plugged with a fist size glob of guts. Both entry hole and exit hole were impressive, but was amazed that no blood was shooting out of the entry hole. Jury is still out on the Rage as I intend to shoot another to see the results. The shot caught the lung, liver and guts…she only went 60 – 70 yards and was dead within about 10 minutes.
