A great night in the stand

I was lucky enough to be able to sit in a stand opening Saturday eve. I probably had one of the most relaxing and exciting sits in a long time. Honestly with my busy schedule I should have shot a buck nicknamed Dozer but held out hoping Triple T was following behind. I had 5 bucks all within my bow range that eve and it was a sight to remember. It really was a special night,

I was able to hang on stand in early Aug right before my accident with the eye, this is one of my favorite spots, a sweet staging area and pinch point where a ton of deer traffic passes through and stages up prior to heading to the different food plots and so forth as well as a heavy traffic area during the rut I used to use my tree saddle in this spot to elude any other hunters from knowing of my favorite tree and setup but last year in December I hung a hang on there for late season and decided that I would hang it again (earlier) this year.

So back to the hunt at a little after 4:00 pm I had my first small buck show up he actually bedded down for a while in my 40 yard zone, later he got up and stretched only to walk up and this time bed down 6 feet from my tree – yep a little close well he ended up getting up after while and moved on to the food sources about a 100 yards away. Shortly after he left a really nice 3.5 year old 8 pt. started working his way past me followed by a 9 pt. named Dozer. And then after those two, I had another 8 and a 7 come through both 2.5 year olds. 5 Bucks all in one night and for the most part, all bucks that would get most folks all excited and jacked about hunting.

I was really hoping that Triple T would be hanging 30 or so yards behind Dozer and as he moved though old Triple would show his stuff. Dozer is a 4.5 year old that we have had pictures of him now for 3 years, the last two years he was only a eight, Triple T is a year younger but has been a 10 pt. the last two years now he carries good height and is the largest on my cam this year so far.

    Good Luck Folks

Sounds like your being alittle “greedy” Does sound like alot of fun with all the deer your seeing.

Wow – it sounds like you had a great night. It’s exactly why so many of us bowhunters sit in a tree for so many nights on end and not see anything. Maybe it was a sign from above blessing you for everything that you’ve endured from your eye injury. It had to be extra sweet.

Great stuff Jeff. It’s truly why we bow hunt. I’m sure it’s hard for some to comprehend, but time in the stand is simply glorious for most of us. Throw in some critter interaction and it’s hard to top. Best of luck getting the buck you have set as your goal.

Great report Jeff. I’m glad to hear that your eye has healed well enough to get back in the stand. Good luck to you this Fall!
