No BLOOD!

I went on stand today hoping to shoot a doe. I didnt get out till 5:45, since it was so late i went to a stand that is only 100 or so yards off the road. About 10 minutes after sunset i get a shot at a doe. She was literally 10 feet from the base of my tree when i shot. No I am kinda regreting the shot i took. The arrow whacked her directly on top of her back. Now in my mind i was confused . I thought she should have dropped. But she ran away with what appered to be only a couple inches of arrow in her. After i got down from stand i found no blood but went to where i thought she entered the woods. There i found my arrow, with about 8 inches gone and blood 4 inches up on that. We went home and grabbed flash lights and looked for 2 hours with out finding a single drop of blood. Anyone know what could have happened?? Im gunna sleep on it for the night after kicking myself for not waiting for a better shot. Will give it another look before i got to be at school in the morning. Will post update tomorrow.

Well there’s no exit wound and since the entry hole’s on top I don’t expect to be much for blood. But since ya found good blood on the pc of arrow I think its going to be a dead deer. Just going to have to grid it off and search her out thats all ya can do. Good Luck

My thoughts exactly, I shot one from the top once and the hole pluged with a peice of gut dead deer 100 yards later.

Looked for an hour before school this morning. Nothing to be found. Not even blood. Was gunna look after school again. I’m just worried if the meat will be good if I do find it. Any thoughts?

I agree with others. The other reason that is not a great shotvto take, it is hard to hit both lungs at that angle. Even with a single lung hit a deer can travel a good distance before expiring. Good Luck! I hope you find her!

Hind sight is always 20/20. Make another effort to find some blood this afternoon and hopefully you find it. Watch for crows.

As for the meat being good. Depends where you find it, in the shade or under the sun. In a ravine or on top of a open field. How long has it been expired etc… The meat will have a distinct smell if it’s bad.

The most important thing is to learn from this. I got lucky on the one deer I shot straight down at. Spined it and it was all over in seconds.

    Good luck finding her!

I wonder if you hit a rib that caused the poor penetration Im sure it’s different than hitting a rib horizontal in a broadside shot

    UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!
After i left school i got a call from my uncle to meet him where i hit her at. Upon arrival i see a doe and a single fawn standing right next to where i found my broken arrow. I quick looked with the binos and seen no injury. But since it was directly on top of her back i wasnt expecting to see it. But as she ran off and crossed the road me and my friend relized she was running goofy.

So im thinking it was the doe i hit!!!! What are the chances of seeing a doe with a single fawn, just like the night i shot her, and watching the doe run off in a goofy manner? Gunna try to hunt the same spot later this week when i get a chance.
One last question. Will that deer return to the same spot after it was shot or no?
