Just got back from a few days hunting on the WI property. No BBD but saw two shooter bucks and encounters with 14 deer in 3 days within 20 yards, and two big old bear, so it was a good few days. I watched this buck with the binos bedded on a ridge to the north of me about 68 yards away and I thought it had a hole in its antler. Got home and got 5 different pics of it on camera..Here is the blown up pic…You guys think its a hole or some kind of blemish tricking the eye…In the binos I watched it for about an hour and sure looked like a big hole..Either way hes added to the hit list…Good hunting Jay.

May not be a hole in there. Definitely a indentation. Dad has a very similar looking deer hanging on the wall. Must have walked into to stick while in velvet.

Jay- I’ve read/heard that ticks can be the cause of indentations on antlers. Not sure if ther’s any truth to it or not but found it interesting. Later

I’ve been told that sometimes the veins that feed the antler are so big that they don’t close up after the blood stops flowing so they get a hole where the vein was.

I agree with PowerFred’s theory because the hole is usually located on the bottom of the main beam and right under the G-3 or G4.
