I think growing up here in the upper Midwest, we are probably a bit more educated than most of our city dwelling brethren.

.. You would think he would have just an ounce more of common sense than to fire 17! shots into the stomach of the deer.

It’s a good thing the deer wasn’t robbing a bank.

I understand that someone maybe wouldn’t know where the heart and lungs of an animal would be, but I think everyone could ID the head.

“He’s very upset about it, and we asked for a victim advocate to talk to him”

Are you Effen kidding me??!! Heaven forbid this guy has to draw his gun on a real criminal. How many times did he have to reload his gun? That is really sad if you ask me.

    There, I feel better now.

No doubt… after relaoding twice, I probably would have got in my squad and ran it over a 3rd time….

    Sad….

Long story short , I had a buddy down in Iowa that pulled over last fall for the same thing and seen a cop shooting at a doe and he never did hit it Told the cop he had his 12 gauge in the truck ( deer season ) and asked if he wanted him to shoot it for him I think the cop shot 2 clips full so was like yes if you would

I keep thinking of the movie Me Myself & Irene when he hits the cow and it just won’t die

Thats to funny. Five years ago when i was 13 we saw a doe laying in the ditch of the freeway. Sheriff came was gunna shoot it but instead ley me with my 20 gauge because it was deer season. After i shot it, my uncle cut its troat to bleed it out, and the sheriff insisted to shoot it once more because it was still kicking. Some people just dont have to much common sense.

What I get a kick out of is the statement:

“Under Sheriff’s Office policies, deputies are allow to kill injured animals if it is determined they won’t survive.”

If the Deputy doesn’t know a thing about animal anatomy (clearly) how is he qualified to determine an animals capacity to survive an incident? All I know is don’t put this guy next to my bird dog after a stand of Cockleburs!

Last year a doe got hit in front of our house and a very green new hire officer responded. He got the ok to dispatch the doe, whose hips were broken and could not move. The officer missed three times with his pistol. We urged the officer to perhaps get closer because he was at least 40 yards away from the deer. He responded “I am not going anywhere near that thing!”. Makes me feel safe.

Im in LE, and you’d be surprised what the public and cops do to injured wild game. The cop in the article was clearly mortified at doing something she had never done before. I can’t tell you how many times the public thinks we will bring the injured deer, coon, turtle u name it to the vet’s office so it can be saved. So we tell them you are right we will take em to the vet, but you should get going. After you tell em what they want to hear and they are a mile down the road, KABOOM… Coffee anyone
