Sorry for the late post, i had to get to class by 11 this morning
I sat in a boxelder tree last night about 30 yards off of a hay field last night. We have been seeing dozens of deer in the first two nights so i decided to sit here hoping to fill a tag I shot this doe at 6:40 pm after she walked under me, looked up, snorted, and spooked to 10 yards I drew back and put the pin at around the last rib because she was quartering away hard. BUT the arrow hit in between the ham and the last rib and went in about 3/4 of the way.
After about 30 min, i got down and followed the trail for about 50 yards, and then backed out. I was shooting the Reaper 2″ cut heads and didnt think she was going to go far. At around 9 pm my dad and i tracked for another 125 yards and then lost blood
I decided that i would back out and go look at first light for a few hours before i had to leave to go to school. My mom asked if i needed her help….so i figured that 4 eyes are better than 2 She has never helped track before so it was really fun to see her in 4 layers of clothes Long story short, found a lot more blood and my mom actually found the blood trail in the weeds that eventually led to the deer
She went about 275 yards and the broad head tip pocked out about 2 inches behind the shoulder
NICE! Glad to see team 22 with points so early! Now post that pic on the scoreboard post and get over to the smacktalk post and let em’ have it. Way to go!
Question, is a gut shot deer that sat out all night in 55+ degree weather any good or is the meat a waste? I’ve seen deer go bad during gun season and it’s way cooler at that time of year.
