I see a lot of shore fishing in the Hudson narrows, but you should check the regulations for timing on the different fish, the Croix has its own set of rules.
Was up on the Rainy at the Sturgeon Excursion and almost threw out 2 poles Thanks Mealy

Pick up a St Croix river hot spots map and there are a few shore spots marked out

Hey guys pretty new to the area. Was wondering is there any place on shore with easy access. I like cat fishing in the evening. Is there possabilities to catch any crappies or walleye – saugers from shore on the croix????? If there is any suggestions i’ll take them. Thanks

I’ll give you 3 spots with good access and possibilities to catch fish. These are all community type holes so expect some company but you should also catch some fish. The river elevation is at 680.8′ right now (normal pool elevation is 675.5′) so it is about 5 feet high and still rising. Just about every shore spot is going to be under water and difficult to fish from shore during this type of high water. Remember you can fish 2 rods on the St Croix River – bring the kids and have them each fishing 2 rods so you can cover a lot of water.

Spot #1. Lakeside Park in Bayport: Easy to get to and with good parking. There is a large play area with slides, swings, and climbing things for the kids when they get bored with fishing. Fish along the shoreline just south of the new Swim House. Bayport has plans to put a fishing pier in sometime in the future which would make this an even better place to shore fish.

Spot #2: Boomsite Rest Area: North of Stillwater on Hwy 95 just past the DNR Public Access Point. This spot will probably be unfishable right now with the high water. When the river drops to normal pool elevation this is a good spot to try in the evening. If you have kids they will love this spot.

Spot #3: Lowell Park in Stillwater near the Lift Bridge: Fish just north of the Gazebo. You will see a spot where the river walk has a slight rise or hump just north of the Gazebo. There is a water run-off drain there that washes water into the river. That drain creates a shallow sandbar there during normal pool elevation. Fish the area around where those 2 culverts dump into the river. This spot is under water right now and won’t be fishable until the river stabilizes and starts to fall. You will probably have a lot of company when you fish here. This place is sheepshead heaven – fun for the kids.

    GOOD LUCK!!

There is a fishing pier at the Osceola park. Saugers are known to come in there around opener.

Thanks guys this helps so much. My girlfriend and I went to bayport on sunday to get some lines wet. She got 2 bites with no success in bringing anything in. Then we drove up to stillwater to get something to eat. There were some people fishing by the lift bridge but I didn’t see them catch anything. So do you bobber fish or on the bottom for saugers???? lindy rigs or just plain hooks can you guys help out at all???? The same for bobbers little jigs or plain hooks??? I know how to fish the mississippi I fish pool 4 and 5 but this water looks way different. Is it kind of the same at all????

Downtown Hudson Wisconsin, the levee and dike has tons tons of shore fish opportunities.

So I think it’s a good problem to have deer under your stand on evenings when it’s time to go, but how do you get out? I don’t want them to ever be spooked by anything but what is the least spooking thing you can do to sneak out? I rattled tonight but the does and fawn just kept eating it took a snort wheeze to get them off the plot but was wondering if there was a more subtle way

If you have rattling horns with you I’d toss them at the closest deer. I’ve done it in the past and had the same does under my stand the following night. If you can just spook one deer, the rest will follow her out and not know why or what spooked them.

I’ve also had my father or someone ride a 4 wheeler into a food plot to blow the deer out and give me a chance to climb down. Something that I’ve never tried but have read somewhere is to bring a windup alarm clock and set it away from your stand with the alarm set for a little after closing. The alarm goes off, deer exit field, and you get a chance to get out without them seeing you….sounds a little crazy, but I suppose it would work.

The best option is to set your stands in a travel corridor so the deer are coming past you to their destination and are already past when darkness comes, but I know that this is not always an option.

Some good advice shednut. A buddy of mine uses a slingshot with some small rocks. He says he picks out a fawn and let’s it fly!

Good ideas and thanks. I have tried quite a few different soundsbut hoped one might be less memorable than others for the deer? I don’t think I have enough moxy for the alarm clock but it’s a clever idea.
