On What Date

Will we see the 1st hard horned pics???

I’ll say August 26

august 12th!!! A friend of mine shot a video from his truck of a big ten at 100 yards with his velvet freshly stripped… And I saw a trail cam pic from buf county that sure looks like the buck was either shed or darn close to doing so. the date on the pic says 7/31 though…. who knows on the pic, but the video is 100 percent accurate.

I will guess the 28th.

I heard more rumors of another hard horn Aug 18 but haven’t seen proof

I would have to see proof. The last couple weeks they start to dry out a bit and from a distance they can appear to be hard horned, not to say that it can’t happen but would be extremely rare.

When I hunted North Dakota opener which then started the weekend of Aug. 30 most bucks were in velvet the first couple days then by mid-week it was about half and half.

Lets see the proof guys!!

I tried to hunt for a velvet buck in sask. a couple of years back the first week of sept. Obout 50% were hard horned by the 7th of sept. But I did not hesitate to shoot a nice 5X5 hard horned buck

Had my cameras in a couple new spots, great pinch points and flats for rutting deer but very little food right now so not many pics and no buck pics without velvet, yet.

Moved one camera back to where I filmed 11 bucks a couple weeks ago, we should see when the velvet starts to come off on those bucks.

Still thinking the 28th for the first one, maybe 29th.

Pat… I’m guessing you keep pretty good records.. These were hard horned on the 24th. You are the whitetail God!

Normally I go with Sept 1 But with everything else being ahead of schedule I guessed earlier

The bucks I got on camera are all in velvet as of 8/24. I plan on checking cameras again early next week on Mon so I’m guessing I will see some hard horned.
