The good news is I’m consistent.

I say way to go, WI. Less restrictions/rules, freedom of choice, etc.

For what its worth, I shot a doe at 200 yards with a 1x scoped muzzleloader a few years back. I don’t see a major difference between 1x and higher powered scopes (as far as ability to shoot reasonable effectively, given a steady rest), but it will be nice to have the choice.

The one reason to consider it would be to take advantage of the a scope’s light gather abilities to offer the shot 5 minutes later than the iron sites might??

I just read the 2010 Deer Regs. and it still says that scopes with magnification are not legal during the muzzleloader hunt. Called the DNR and they said that it is in legislation and could possibly pass before the hunting season or it could be in legislation for some time.

I like the idea, but for those who like the “traditional way” – simply don’t put a scope on…

I know some like it and some don’t, but I thought I would pass on the info. It is official the scope magnification law passed legislation and is now in effect for the upcoming season.

In a nutshell, good thing muzzleloader is at the end of gun season, as now it truely is just an extension of gun season—–rename it “single shot season”.
How long until we all can use crossbows for bow season? Anyone who can properly shoot a rifle can pick up a cross bow. Our deer seasons are becoming pretty gray.

I don’t like the change and hope it fails in legislation. A few reasons: 1) WI hunters don’t need any more bucks taken that what are now anually. 2) Muzz season was not meant to be the single shot rifle. 3) Then the WDNR will create a separate season with an additional buck tag. 4) cold temps + food = big bucks feeding during daylight, great, right?? until all your neighbors take advantage of it and kill every buck that was smart enough to make it though gun season, then whats left for next year. For gods sake, how many bucks does a guy need to kill in a single year.

Don’t want to get off on the wrong foot or make anyone mad, just strongly opinionated about this one.
