A 37-point buck shot by Chris Kiernan of Morris, Illinois, on Nov. 1 in Kendall County netted 268 1/8 inches and will be the state’s new non-typical archery record.
It beats the previous record by 1 inch by Dave Jones’ 36-pointer shot in Mason County in 2003.
The buck was measured last month by an official Pope and Young measurer after the mandatory 60-day drying period.
Kiernan’s record won’t be official, however, until after the buck is measured by a panel of P&Y measurers, which wont be until 2011 in Rochester, Minn.
A story about the hunt will be in the July issue of North American Whitetail.
