So I am about 2 months behind on getting stuff sent reorganized posted etc. etc. etc. but here it is better late than never right? My bow season started off with a great kill in Missouri in the middle of September.
He turned out to be my biggest buck yet….a 148″ 9 pointer with a legal 1″ kicker off his G3 making him a 10 pointer.
After starting the season off with a bang i was excited to hunt MN. one because i had trail cam pics of a couple nice bucks and two because we were now in our 4th year of letting the little ones walk and trying to see if we could hammer on some bigger boys.
I proceeded to hunt quite a bit all the way up to rifle season without so much as a glimpse of a shooter while sitting in the stand. I was getting pretty discouraged.I was getting a few pictures and saw one while driving but just couldnt seal the deal in the stand.
Well rifle season started and we were seeing some deer but not a ton but i knew we needed to get something soon. My grandparents arent exactly all about deer mananagement as they think more about freezer management than anything and passing up on little bucks the last three years was really starting to rub on them.
Well Sunday night of the first weekend was the night i was waiting for. My grandma started it off with shooting a 3.5 year old 8 pointer at 2:30. Then another member of our party got in on the action with another 3.5 year old 9 pointer. Both deer were exactly what i was looking for. They werent exactly giants but it proved that management on our property does and will work. I think my is now otta the fire.
For the eight of us that hunted at my grandparents we ended up seeing 13 different bucks. six shooters and were able to put two bucks on the ground.I had video footage of both these bucks the year before as a six and eight pointer and trail cam pics of them throughout the summer. All in all though an ok season for me. Lets bring on next year.
