I was thinking about putting a few salt blocks out on our hunting land. The ?’s I have is:

    1. What type of salt blocks works / Is the best?
    2. When is the best time to put them out.
    3. These are legal to use / Hunt over in Minnesota correct?
    4. Is there some other type of block that would be better to put out?
I just thought it would help the deer out and maybe hold / bring in a few deer.

Thanks in advance for all of you responses.

    1. Not sure what’s best but I just buy the trace mineral 50 lb blocks (redish brown).

    2. Anytime is good. I always replenish mine this time of year simply because I can reach my areas with snowmobile and sled.

    3. Yes they’re legal and to hunt over. You’ll rarely see deer use them during hunting season but hammer them during summer months which is when their system needs minerals the most.

    4. If you choose a block bust it up well with a hammer and spread it in about a 4’circle. I’ve seen a recipe online which uses 3 ingredients of bagged loose mineral/salt readily available at most farm supply stores.

X 2 My favorite is to put it on a stump in or on the edge of my food plots. Dig a hole so it holds some water and your in business
