Does anyone know why a bucks left side quite often sports 1 more point than the right side. When looking at mounts, pictures, and live deer I have observed that the bucks that have an unequal number of points on each side usually have more on the left side.

Interesting. I’m gonna have to start keeping mental notes on this.

For me it has been the deers right side the majority of the time??

EDIT: It is about 50 /50 if I keep going back!!

I believe that it’s due to the deers preference of how they sleep. If they lay with their left antler down(during velvet growth) the left antler will receive more blood and in turn grow faster. They are creatures of habit and just like you and me have a certain position that they prefer to sleep in. This is not scientific but it’s something that I believe holds true, and why it’s a rarity that you find a buck without side to side deductions.

This thought would’ve never crossed my mind until you mentioned it. i took a look at the 11 bucks i have shot and 4 have more points/character on the left, 3 on the right and 4 that are neutral.

But, when looking at the 4 Mature Bucks that i have shot…. 3 have more points on the Left.

    Interesting…….

Does a deer lay their head down while sleeping???? Or just tuck it onto their shoulder. Anybody have pen deer or seen one actually sleep?
