So I go to sit on Sunday afternoon, nice night for a deer hunt. Found an old permanant stand on my uncles place (1st time hunting there this year) that someone had reworked. Deer tracks everywhere, so I climb up and get ready. Great night in the stand the deer where moving all over the place. 8 differnt does and fawns and a nice 8 pointer. Any way, the 8 pointer first showed up at 4:40 pm, he is 80 – 100 yards away and walking the wrong direction. I watch and watch but he disapears into some thick stuff on the neighbors land. Just as I lost sight of him I hear something walking through the snow behind me…I get 1/2 way turned around and see a skin head 15 yards away from me. I tried to get my bow around on her but to no avail, she bounded off to about 40 yards and got behind some brush. Now it’s starting to get dark, must be 2-3 minutes of leagal shooting light left. Then I heard it, grunt, grunt, grunt. SOB he is right behind me (remember I just turned around) I twist and contort my not so slender body to see him. He’s a nice 3-1/2 yr old buck, G-2 6-8″ / G-3 10-12″ / fairly heavy and very symetrical. He is going to get the air let out of him if I can get turned. He is behind a tree so I go to draw, he steps out in mid draw and as I come to full draw my drop away pops into position and “CLICK” my arrow bounces on it…..you know the rest he bounds off. Oh well, for only filling one tag this year, it’s been fun and I am going to try and get out again tomorrow afternoon before the snow fall of the decade hits us.
In need of some mole skin
