With this weekend Being the Muzzleloader Opener here in Minnesota I would be interested in knowing what setup all of you are currectly using and Why? I’ll start with my current setup:
    Thompson Center 50 Cal.
Powerbelt Platinum bullets – 270 Grain
Triple Seven Powder – 110-130 Grains

I shoot the platinum series because they shoot much better groups than the original and because I believe they have much better retention and leave a better blood trail. I use either 110 or 130 Grains of powder. I like the little extra punch and flatter shooting over the 100 grains. I tried it with 150 grains and just could not keep consistent groups. So there is mine – lets hear your’s. Was interested In knowing if anyone has tried the new White Hot powder – If so what do you think and low much powder are you using. Thanks in advance for all of your responses. Good luck to everyone heading out there this season and BE SAFE !!!

    Savage 10ML-II

Following the Savage guidelines shooting IMR smokeless powder with a 250 grain Hornady XTP bullet. I won’t get to use it this year, however dad will be testing it out on whitetail in Iowa in a few weeks.

Should be real interesting. Shooting smokeless powder is an awesome advance in muzzleloader technology. Much better ballistics.

I think your going to have to wait a bit for that freezing a$$ cold part. The weather report for the weekend looks like highs in the low to Mid 40’s with the lows of Mid to upper 20’s. Nice weather but like you I’d like to see it a bit colder. Give those deer a reason to have to move and feed more. At least were not gettin a full moon this year. That should help some.

    T/C Omega
    250 gr. Shockwave
    90 gr./ Triple 7 FFG/ Loose Powder

My son has killed his first two whitetails with this setup.
It’s also calibrated to work w/ the 3-9X40 mil-dot scope that I use for gun season. Pop off the scope for muzzleloader season and I’m in business

I stand corrected. I guess the next full moon is mid next week. I thought when I looked a few weeks ago that we would be missing it. That is going to make it tough. Oh well it seems like it always hit full moon on muzzleloader opener or soon there after

I shoot a T/C Omega .50 cal, with 200 grain shockwave sabots and 90 grains of Blackhorn 209 powder. Being a bowhunter I don’t much care for recoil, and that helps tame it a bit, though the load seems a bit light. It’s actually what my gun groups best – consistent 1.5″ groups at 100 yards, 3″ at 200 yards (albeit 15 inches low). Any more powder charge and my groups widen. Though I think I will play around and try and up the powder charge this winter, as I didn’t get a pass through like I’d hoped on the buck I shot slightly quartering-to at 40 yards this fall.

try a heavier grain bullet with more powder….few years back I went to another state for smoke pole season and added the scope so i went more powder…..the groups were way off so i tried a 300 grain bullet compared to the then 240 grain Hornady XTp and my groupings improved quite a bit!
