Possibly rewash with no scent soap? Hang it outside and spray with scent blocker like product.
November 19, 2009 at 7:56 pm #69329Maybe try washing it again with some baking soda? Or run to wally world and pick up a bottle of scent free soap.
Don’t you know there is some things your wife should not wash? I’ll bet she has things she doesn’t want you to wash…or dry.
November 19, 2009 at 7:58 pm #69331That was my first thought too, but the trouble is a)it is at my parents house (mom washed it) and she has no non-scent soap, and b) it takes so darn long to line dry.
I have some scent blocker spray, but didn’t know if that would work well.
November 19, 2009 at 8:02 pm #69332Given your situation wash it again in straight water then dry it completely in the dryer then hang outside. That should eliminate most of the perfume. You may then need to mix with local coverscent. (branches, leaves)
Spay it good with no scent before you go out. Darn Moms and wives are so cute when they try to help us…..November 19, 2009 at 8:03 pm #69333Tell her to put it on. Now, go roll around in a field or the woods. Then hang outside til opener.
November 19, 2009 at 8:06 pm #69335I would re-wash in scent free soap also. If you are worried about line drying in time put in dryer with un-scent dryer sheets. Dead Down Wind makes them or Wildlife Research and Hunter Specialties make earth scented dryer sheets. I see your from LaCrosse, you should be able to find them at Gander or Shoot The Duck. Good luck and be safe.

November 19, 2009 at 8:46 pm #69348Re-wash in plain water…. spin the chit out of it and hang out to dry… if your moms dryer is anything like mine at home, you don’t want your hunting clothes anywhere near it…. one word SNUGGLE fabric sheets… Good luck

G… Thats THREE words…????
If anyone ever hears G tell you he shot a 3 pointer, he might actually mean a 9…
November 19, 2009 at 9:08 pm #69351Yep, at the very minimal rewash in straight water. Spin it 2x and line dry or hang in pine tree. Along with scent there is also UV brighteners to be concerned with. IMO, I would just go and buy some $10.00 non scent or UV detergent and re wash it 2x using the nonscent/uv detergent. Then spray the inside of the dryer with Scent Killer including the lint holder & then run it on high heat for 10 minutes. Re-spray scent killer in dryer & lint holder, throw jacket in dryer and dry it. I would then throw it outside in a pine tree or in a container with leaves.
November 19, 2009 at 9:11 pm #69353Your right.. I added the fabric sheets, because I did not know if everyone knew what SNUGGLE was…

x2November 20, 2009 at 4:11 am #69430If she has baking soda have her wash it with a cup of baking soda.
tmskiPosts: 126November 20, 2009 at 4:26 pm #69508If she has any of these items around have her whip up this homemade recipe.
2 Qts. of water (try to use spring or distilled cause tap can have chlorine in it)
1 Qt. of hydrogen peroxide
1 cup of baking soda
1 oz. non scented liquid soapMix it in a gallon jug by shaking it. Loosen cap when done shaking so the gas can escape or else you may rupture the jug and have a mess on your hands. If you decide to make the whole batch, keep shaking it for a few days to completely dissolve the baking soda. Once it is dissolved you don’t have to worry about it rupturing.
This recipe is for a spray, but I bet you could fill a utility sink 1/2 full of water, add the coat and then add this mix. Let it soak and then throw it in the dryer and then use scent spray before you head to the field.
November 20, 2009 at 7:36 pm #69543I’d put it in a bag with some Pine Branches ( If there are pines in the area you hunt. Or put it in a bag with one of those cover scent waffers they sell at sporting good stores. The fresh earth scent should do the trick and cover the soap smell. Good luck
November 20, 2009 at 7:39 pm #69545Had her re-rinse it and put it in a bag of leaves and pine needles yesterday. Bought some earth smelling scent remover stuff too to spray on tonight and tomorrow.
Normally wouldn’t worry about it, but this year I’m sitting on the ground opening morning with a good sized trail 25-30 yards from me, and with south wind that will be right at it.
thanks for all the suggestions and good luck to everyone!!
