Well it finally happened, Ryan got his first deer and it is a buck.
I had sat this stand every morning this week, shame on me right, but I had been seeing an average of 6 to 7 bucks and 5 to 6 does a sit. So I thought that I would take little bro in and try to help him get a deer. We got in the stand at about 1:50 and got settled in and were ready for a good sit but we had no idea how soon the action would start. We had been there for about 10 min and Ryan said he heard something walking in the brush. So with how good calling has been working, I grunted 2 times. Less than a 1 min later, I heard foot steps behind us. I looked and saw a little buck and he was at 20 yards and coming fast. I tapped Ryan on the arm and said “deer behind us!” Then the buck took a trail that went 11 yards from the stand. Ryan readied himself and when he stepped in the clear he let him have it. He stumbled 20 yards and went down. So he started to reload and I looked up and the buck was trying to get up. So I anchored him right there. We were so happy we went down and looked at him and I thought he was a 1 1/2year old 6 point with one side broke off. He turned out to be a 1 1/2 year old 12 point with a broke G5 and the other side broke off just above the base.
It was a great night! We saw a few deer after and Ryan now says he wants to try to kill one with his bow later this year. All I know is I still have a buck tag and I don’t care if I fill it or not. My mission this year is complete
