That I have to share our hunting woods with. Just a few things I have had the misfortune of witnessing so far this season since having to share the hunting woods with MN w-end warriors. I spent my first 2 days in NW MN for my rifle hunt and thanks to the neighbor who is TOO LAZY to get out of his truck but has to drive his 4WD pick up off the road, through greasy ruts, up and over 2 ridges and park 200yrds away from me on top of the crp only to roll down his window and never get out. You only scared 3 deer from me on the second morning. Thanks to the clowns who decorated the brush with beer cans next to the gravel where you parked, nice touch and I bet it makes it easier to find your spot in the morning darkness. Also thanks to the %$@$%#head who blew the head off of the cottontail wit h a rifle and set it in the middle of the road, I’m saying it was not roadkill being the rough and greasy road made 20mph a task. I am now home shotgun hunting, this morning I could only see 3 other hunters when morning light arrived so I can’t say exactly who it was that was trying to call a 2.5 year old 8pt that was 6o yrds away from me onto their property and away from mine. Thank godness he smelled your stank as he made his way over to you and hightailed it back to cover. I absolutely live for deer hunting and the pursuit of a great one but I simply cannot wait for our firearms season to be over with!! Sorry to sound like a whinny little baby but what’s up with people? Seems some don’t deserve 5 minutes in the woods.

Sounds like you have had a season filled with . I see it a lot while hunting in NW MN also. We have a road that is not really a road on the top of a dike and people drive it constantly all day. They will also shoot out the windows and most of the time if they actually hit something they leave it because it is too far out on our property to go get it. Great, now you got me going and I haven’t even left yet. Sorry your hunt didn’t go well.

November 11, 2009 at 4:51 am #67520I feel your pain!
I made the mistake of hunting a State Park this year that I drew a spot for.
Sunday morning I get in early and have 2 guys come in and sit 40 yards on each side of where I am sitting. I gave them the flashlight flicker to let them know where I was located and they both didnt seem to care. . Once I could see a little better after first light, I moved down the ridge away in an effort to get away from these two idiots. 20 minutes later the one guy decides to follow me down the ridge and park his 40 yards away from me again. I now decide to leave the area and find a place to myself, only to find the first guys initial spot filled with 2 cans of Coke and candy wrappers littered on the ground. So on my way out I did him a favor and picked up his trash and left it on the tonneau cover of his pickup for him. Hopefully he can notice it there…
Needless to say, my new Ranger 620 will be put on hold for a while and a piece of land is now my top priority.
I have no patience for individuals who consider themselves outdoorsmen that cannot respect their fellow participants, let alone mother nature itself.
November 11, 2009 at 2:29 pm #67555That sucks. Seems like we hear about this every year.
Good luck
I’m thankful where I hunt I don’t have to deal with alot of other hunters.
November 11, 2009 at 3:11 pm #67562Know the feeling well. That’s why I hunt different places almost every year. Its a constant battle to stear clear of the asshattery you mention.

Chadowski, I would seriously think this over. I have land in multiple states. It costs me a fair chuck of cash every year. The Iowa farm, I haven’t seen in 4 years. I won’t be making it up to the MN Deer property this year. I did make it to Montana, however I doubt I’ll get out there next year or the year after.
It may be different if you buy a chunk close to you, however there are many times that I wish I would have just used the monies spent on land to lease a chunk for the year or just hunt BBO every year. The 5 day BBO hunt is just a hair more than the yearly payment on the Iowa land.
November 11, 2009 at 4:18 pm #67573My thoughts on this were that instead of spending $450 a month on a boat that will depreciate over time, why not invest it in a piece of property that will hold it’s value, and give me a place of my own to hunt.
I’m thinking about a 80-120 acre piece in the Dairyland, WI area, which is close to my family cabin.
November 11, 2009 at 4:20 pm #67575Careful purchasing deer land in NW Wisconsin right now! We hunt Bayfield county forest land and populations are really really bad. I’m quite surprised they even offered extra doe tags.

Our deer managers at work. It should have been back to lottery there years ago. I’m not hunting that area this year for that very reason.
November 11, 2009 at 5:49 pm #67592Burnett county deer numbers are down as well. I figured if I could have my own little piece of property that I could at least micro manage the herd around my property to make a little bit of a difference.
November 11, 2009 at 6:07 pm #67601Sorry to hear that Randy! that sucks..It wont be long and you will have that property all to yourself…well..kinda.
November 11, 2009 at 6:16 pm #67602Alright just one more. I just got back from checking 2 cams on my other archery spot. There is a slug crew who hunts this piece for 9 days but I did get a good video clip of 2 of them the day before season playing with the licking branch, one of them cracking a fresh beer, at least the empties were crushed in their pockets and dumping what looked to be a half a bottle of some sort of scent in the scrape then giving it a good rub in with his leather boots. All of this in only 20 seconds. Too funny!!
November 11, 2009 at 7:27 pm #67629Oh my goodness. I usually try to rub it in my armpit and then pee on it ,,,but play with it? these guys are morons!
November 12, 2009 at 2:53 pm #67733Well guys… I get that noone wants to miss the rut. Its easily the most fun time of year to hunt. However, Ive realized this year that I should no longer hold out for the big one until the rut. I will be taking the best I see through Halloween from now on. The whole pattern and experience always goes to @#$% at the start of leadchucker season.
PS I dont even hunt on public land and I have these problems also. Something about gun season that makes people “forget” property lines.
