Spent the last 4 days chasin deer with the bow. The deer were running….very frustrating each encounter would last about 45 seconds and then they were gone. No can, no grunting, nothing I did could I get them to stop. The only way they would stop is if the doe stopped. Well I finally manage to slide an arrow in to one of the better bucks in our area up in Rice Lake. I’ve had encounters with this caliber buck over he last 3-4 years bow hunting on my 4 day excursions, never being able to pull the trigger on my release. I was lucky this year a doe circled around me and stopped in just the right spot to allow me to shot this 8 point buck. It’s not a real heavy rack, but has nice width, 18″ inside spread, and good tine length.
The buck only ran about 100 yards at the most and I heard him go down. I was worried I had hit the shoulder, I had a very tough quartering almost frontal shot. At 15 yards I was pretty confident i could make the shot. I had to aim up on the neck to get the arrow into the vitals at the right angle. The Jack hammer expandable did its job and ripped the one lung to shreds. Thanks big Brother Brent for all your help getting him out of the woods……amazing how dark the North woods can get after dark…..we got a little turned around draggin him out…..make for a memorable hunt
