Wounded Buck?

I was out yesterday afternoon and around 4:30 had a 8pt walk within 10 yds of my stand on the other side of the fence where I do not have permission. He was outside the ears but did not have a lot of mass, but boy was he hurting! He must of got stuck in the hind leg by either another buck or an arrow. I thought about putting him out of his misery, but when he crossed on to the property where I have permission he was about 40 yds and I would of been shooting perpendicular to the wind so I passed. I did not want to add to his pain!!

Have you guys ever just put one down to end its misery?

That sucks, it makes me sick when I see a wounded deer in that situation. I’ve taken a few deer due to being wounded by hunters or hit by a car. 2 bad you didnt get an arrow into him. Its going to be a miserable one for him.

Very bad deal. 2 years ago I burned up my last 3 days of ML hunting tracking somebody else’s wounded deer. It ovbiously had a broken hind leg due to his tracks in the snow. On the 3rd morning my friend and I finally caught up to it and he was even too weak to get out of his bed. We had to end his misery. Never easy to kill a poor animal at point blank. I sure wish I would’ve caught up to the road hunter too as, well you know what I’d like to do to them.

I was just going to make this same post i did this very thing this morning i had a spike buck come by and was having a really hard time gettin around i watched him fall and get up walk with in range and fall agin i really couldnt see what was wrong but could tell he was in rough shape so when he got up i chose to shoot him and burn my buck tag on him felt it was the proper thing to do to help end his pain after i shot he went a short distance and died then a few min later i seen a coyote coming down the same trail guessin he was pushing him i got to take one shot at him at about fifty yards but hit a branch then climbed down to check the deer out after looking at the deer looks like he was shot really low threw the brisket and got part of his left leg really was no blood up to where i shot him at but still dont think he would of lived more than a few days with the coyotes chasing him at least they didnt get a easy meal only bad thing is there gos my hopes for a big boy during the rut -( maybe something good will come next year for doing it

Yeah I dont even want to get started on road hunters. Every year there seems to be more and more. Its pretty ridiculous all the $hit that people pull. In my opinion its a big relief when the 2 guns seasons are over.

You did the right thing, I would have done it too. Thats part of being an ethical sportsman, a quick humane kill. Doesn’t always work out, but thats the goal. Nice work. No one to party hunt with? Get a management tag and get on doe patrol

Thanks for being a person I don’t mind sharing the hunting woods with. I, as I’m sure alot of you have grown to respect deer more than 50% deer hunters out there

Why you did the right thing for sure. I have been second guessing myself on if I should of tried the shot. But I know a strong gust would of come and I would of stuck him in the front shoulder. I hope he heals or gets taking this weekend.
