Got out last night about 3:00. Some sporadic doe came out to the chopped corn field I was on and then BOOM. The bucks start coming about 4:30. First a stream of yearlings, one spike and a couple scrappers. They mostly fed until a nice 8pt showed up. I had a decoy set up in the little wood lot I was in. I grunted a few times and he came runnin. I got him to about 60 yards. I don’t think he could see the deek. He was a nice big deer but had a broken G3. A buck I called curly in velvet, his G3 was curled down. It must have fallen off after shedding. He decided to check out the yearlings in the corn. I tried grunting him again and again he came trotting in, jumped the fenceline another 60 yards to my east but wouldn’t come closer so I hit the bleater a few times. He came 10 more yards but I still don’t think he ever saw the deek. He finally moved off to the south- into the wind. Finally a deer moving into the wind. Trying again tomorrow morning. First morning hunt for the year. How’s the morning action out there??

Sounds like a great time in the woods Marty! We haven’t done much morning hunting only because we always bumped the deer on our way into the stand. But this time of year is always a good time to sit morning til night if you can! Good luck chasing that big 8!

So far I have seen better movement in the morning than the evening. Not that it means too much. I have no fields to sit near so I’m guessing I’m catching them comming back to bed. All evening sits so far, the movement has been mostly in the last 30 minutes of shooting light. I’m about 25 minutes south of EC. Any time you can get into the woods is a good time right now.

Encountered a nice nine last night North Metro. He was on his feet with plenty of light left. Came around to check a doe out and he was on his way.

MORNING ACCESS IS A HUGE PROBLEM FOR US ALSO. WENT IN SUN MORN AND BUMPED MORE DEER THAN I CARE TO COUNT. IT AFFECTED THE WHOLE WEEKEND DEER MOVEMENT. MON MORN WE WENT IN JUST AFTER LIGHT, DIDNT BUMJP ANY WE KNOW OF BUT WAS STILL SLOW. I THINK THIS NEXT WEEK WE WILL CONTINUE TO GET IN JUST AFTER LIGHT SEEMS TO MAKE SENSE TO ME?
