    I was just watching the Nuge on tv and he said he hangs his deer up to a week NOT gutted. I would think this would taint the meat. Anyone do this?

    I have not and would never do that. In colder weather I’ve heard ’em hanging for about 3 days. The rationale of this is that the bacteria breaks down the connective tissue in the meat and makes it more tender Think about it, your deers dead and the next day you drop it off at the processor, and ‘you think’ the processor cut it up right away? I bet it lays there several days cuz they are busy…and the deer are just piled up! I only hope I get my deer and not a gut shot one that’s been hanging some where for a week I say get him up as soon as possible. Especially in warm weather. If it’s freezing, no worries I hope…

    If it is cold enough I will let mine hang 3,4,5 days. But mine is gutted. I just thought it was really weird when he said he hangs it not gutted.

    Not gutted sounds incredibly wrong. I cant even imagine doing that.

    I will leave mine hang anywhere up to 5 or 6 days if its cold enough out. BUT gutted!

    Yeah, gotta wonder about the meat but think of the poor sucker that has to gut that deer after a week!

    He’s a little out there, but I’m sure glad he’s on our side… VERY well spoken about his points, and a huge advocate of hunting/gun rights. It nearly impossible for an anti to “win” an arguement with Uncle Ted. They usually resort to name calling, which proves that they just lost the debate….
