I don’t know if you changed any thing but I was able to watch it flawlessly this morning. That was a great and informative show!! I do have a question, when you take your glasses off James and set them on your seat, do you ever forget and sit on them? I know I have! Another fine job guys!!

Ed… funny you ask. I’ve never sat on them. But Sampson did step on that pair in this episode about 2 months after this was taped.

In your show you anchor. What type of anchor do you use and how many do you loose? Is there a better way to hook the anchor up for that type of river fishing?

As Steve pointed out, I use a 15 Lb water spike. And I’ve had the same water spike for nearly 10 years. I’ve used the richters (way too heavy and they get lost far too easily) and every mushroom or fluke style anchor made. Nothing works like a spike. The one thing to remember with the spike is to let out enough rope to give the spike a chance to dig in. Once you’re hooked up… you’re not going anywhere.

Hey guys, like I said in my last post I just started fishing the mississippi and i would like to know if the current breaks you talk about are the same as wing dams? When I moved from lakes to the river its like learning all over again. Thanks

In this last episode we don’t fish any wingdams. Instead we concentrated on areas where fast water and slow water met. Any obstacle along the shorelines or islands will cause a current break that will shelter walleyes from the force of the current. These areas are often in fairly shallow water (less than 10′ deep) and are best fished by casting to those small spots.

We plan to film a couple river shows every season and we do have a late summer walleye show I filmed with Dustin Stewart on the river that should also be very useful to anyone starting to fish moving waters.

Sounds like the story of my life…Im back from hunting for two days to do my fatherly dutys as we have day care issues for two days…then back out to WI on Thursday…The bucks are movin and during shooting hours . The big 8 in the pics I saw 4 different times, either too far or I chose the wrong stand…nothing worse then being able to see your other stand and he decides to come out of bed from that trail ..I saw one other nice buck but this 8 seems to love the camera as I have about 10 pics of it…eairlier in the season he was never near this stand as its close to a doe bedding area but like they say…you want to hunt bucks during rut, find the doe’s…seems to be true with this guy..If I cant lay the hammer down on him, at least I know my heart still pumps good ohh the dates are wrong on the camera…not sure what the issue is, keeps the time but not the date…good luck all anyone else seeing any chasing yet? Sunday night I had a buck about 5 minutes behind a doe grunting the whole time. I could hear him well before I could see him. He followed the exact same trail she did. Not close enough to get a shot. Great decision to leave the grunt tube in the truck that night.

    I hear ya man!

I grunted in a big 10 last night from about 200 yards heading the other way on the edge of a field. got him out of the woods 3 fricken times and finally came to a trot right towards me after I growled. Walks right by my other stand in the corner of the field to get into the woods (which was 30 yards away but offers no shot) after he decided to circle down wind. makes his way back up towards me and stops behind a tree directly down wind of me. stands there for 5 minutes and all I can see is nose and hind quarters. there was barely any wind but it decides to start picking up. a couple of nasty 10-15 mph gusts later and he picks his head up, gets a whiff of something he doesn’t like turns around and walks down into the valley. heartbreaker.

He didn’t seem too spook too much so hopefully I get another crack at him.

Jay, That is one sweet looking buck! I’m waiting for that call. Good luck with him after you change those diapers.
