i was hunting last friday night i saw some deer in the field and i pulled out the grunt tube and grunt a few times and as soon as i stop a deer started to haul major towards me and stopped at the fence line 150 yards away. But from that distance and me leaving the bino in the truck i figured it was another doe. About 5 minutes past with this deer standing there and he continued to look over his shoulder just stood there. Me thinking hes a doe because i cant see horns because of low light and the distance. So after he was there for like 5 minutes he got chased off by and even bigger body deer. me thinking a mature doe. But apon further review i am starting to believe both the deer that ran to me and the one that chased him away where both bucks. So i my Q is i am i right OR could it have been a doe? I am very frustrated with the me not thinking straight and continuing to call but hay thats hunting. So what do you think? Going down friday-sunday agian for my last bow hunt until last season B rifle so What should i do to increase my odds on these two bucks?

    Thanks much

First off Derrick…. BRING THE BINOCS Secondly, can you close the distance, to where you first saw them ? Thirdly, grunting will only get better in the coming weeks Good luck

I think they were both bucks. I have never had a doe come to a grunt call. Not that it don’t happen, but never for me…this evening was a good example…5 does, only 2 stopped to even acknowledge a grunt was heard. Close the distance and put the down on the big one!

More than likely a pair of younger bucks, but anything can happen in the woods, as stated prior and which I highly depend on is a good pair of bino’s, if I ever have a day where I end up in the stand without my bino’s it just plain sucks, I have become so dependent on them for one it eliminates paranoia – have you ever starred at something long enough in the woods and swore that it looks just like a deer that is standing – now this is from a distance folks – and you’re wondering if it is ever going to work its way in, well you pull up the bino’s and come to find out it’s just a tree stump or brush moving in the breeze with the sun hitting it just right, the point is you can look and relax, if you see a buck approaching you can take a look and if it’s any wares close to what you’re looking for you can get ready for the shot versus thinking it’s small and regret it later.

I have a pair of 10×42 Vortex Vipers that I use in the woods. Anything in the 8×32 to the 10x42s works well bowhunting, small enough to carry in and out easy to use with excellent magnification and light drawing abilities.

Just my thoughts, Good Luck Hunting
